I don't sprage. I use around 3 quarts of water per pound of grain. Its a very thin mash.
I just pull the "bag", which is not a bag it 2 yards of voille. I've tried various methods, but the easiest is to drop it in a bucket. I have a collander in the bottom that allows the wort to drain. I...
This rig is nothing special, but its simple. Maybe someone thinking about going all grain will benefit and improve on it's cheap design.
I do BIAB and recirculate the mash in a single vessel. I like the small foot print because I'm lazy, small foot print = less crap to get out. I don't have...
Single vessel direct fired kettle for Full Volume No Sparge (BIAB) brewing. Pump recirculates the wort through the grain in the bag. Once I mash out I pull the bag and start the boil. Couldn't be easier.
I've had mine do this twice. I assumed it was a "safety" feature to keep the pump from getting hot. I've worked with electric motors in the past that operated similarly.
The first time I got a little uptight but thought I'd just give it 5 minutes. I figured the reason was because I had it...
I'm with half pint especially if its a dark beer. If you haven't tried not using it check it out. I think crashing does a great jobs. That and proper conditioning.
Here is a list of options:

I particularly like IPA much anymore. My friend and I did drink quite a lot of it summer 2008. He still drinks it constantly and I'm done with IPA's.
I like hops, but to me so many IPA's have little character other than hops. There are very few I will even drink commercially anymore.
I don't understand it either unless he's talking about draining the MLT into the BK. When I used a cooler with this method I let it drain as fast as it could go. It shouldn't matter how fast you drain it.
I actually do BIAB 95% of the time. I'm still doing BIAB with no sparge and reciculating...
I'm with you. I can't believe I read through 12 pages of this without someone mentioning progressive taxation being bogus. The big companies are big because they worked hard at it and continue to do so. If anything give them a break. They just might hire more people. I don't think corporations...
I'll go ahead and comment since you woke it from the dead.
I haven't seen attenuation much beyond what the manufacture advertises, but I'm always on the high side of that figure or maybe 1-3% higher. I usually do longer mashes. I was doing step mashes on almost every brew and would start the...
Looks like your all set on your recipe, but you can use top off water with BIAB. I used a 7.5 gallon kettle to do 5 gallon batches. I'd add as much water as I could for the mash. I'd have water up to about an inch from the top of the kettle.
Once I removed the grain and started to boil I'd...
I'm not sure I understand the problem. Is your burner that hot that it would still cause scorching when recirculating? I have a cheap cast iron burner that doesn't put out a very large flame.
I do brew in a bag with recirc and fire my burner a few times during the mash. I keep it very low and...
Just brew it.
I've talked with a few who only stick in specialty grains the last 15 minutes. Supposed to make the beer more clear. I'm thinking about trying it just to see. I'm curious how it might effect the pH. Also with beers that are dark to begin with I'm not sure why it would matter.
I have an Igloo cube (52 qt I think). I got it on clearance for $10 at Target over the winter. I don't use it. If I were to do a big beer and wanted to brew more than 5 gallons I might use it again. It held the mash decent or an hour and I think it lost 4 degrees on a cold day. Some great...
I think your right about the mash out and I do one as well. I've used this method exclusively for the last 30 batches or so. The method is quite simple and I achieve 75% efficiency without a problem. Less equipment = less clean up = shorter brew day.
You can do a multi-step mash. Stir the while...
