    For my Skeeter Pee

Threw this together in 10 minutes in Gimp to glue onto the bottles i'm giving away as gifts. What do you think?

Just Started My Christmas Apple-Cinnamon Wine - Dec. 8

Hopenstein, Let him do his thing without flaming. If he's wrong, who cares? Go make a batch with his recipe and be OCD about the details, and if it turns out horrendous, pat yourself on the back and toss it down the drain.

Apple Cider or pile of sticky glass?

regular wine bottles aren't built to hold the pressure. your cork will pop or your bottle will. ^_^

    I think i screwed up

you can always toss what's in the secondary right now, clean it out really well, and just start it over when you rack. Do you have any oak chips and vanilla left? I wouldn't be willing to let anything sit with that much headspace.

    I think i screwed up

did you let it cool at all? I guess what I'm asking is, how do you think you screwed it? are you afraid you killed off the yeast or introduces some nasties?

Can you rack to secondary too early?

You helped me track down my error, so it's all good :mug:

Can you rack to secondary too early?

I think i misread the hydrometer. One of the problems being numerexic, the digits get shuffled around. 1.02 would make much more sense. So I'm just looking at one more racking than i had planned on. Not a big deal for me :)

Can you rack to secondary too early?

I racked my raspberry pee to the secondary last night, and It's still fermenting more energetically than I had expected. My hydrometer reading was 1.002. Should I have let it ferment totally dry before racking?

    beer products for wine products

All hydrometers measure SG, so that should be fine. By bottler do you mean the filler tube with the spring valve thingie? And your autosiphon should work just fine. Unless you're fishing for an excuse to get some spares. I don't really worry too much about flavors leaching into my plastic...

    complete beginner

Being poor as dirt, we only ever mouth siphoned. We stripped our teeth with a 30 second swish and swallow of 100 proof vodka to sterilize. Bleh!

    sugar maple wine

A couple of years ago, a family tried making a business of selling premium maple vodka. I don't know how it turned out. Edit: http://www.vermontspirits.com Apparently they're doing quite well I know that my Pops made a maple hefeweissen, and he has a maple stout conditioning right now. the...

    Skeeter Pee

... did i miss something? Akthor's came across as passionate, but i'm not so sure about agressive... Speaking for myself, i saw this recipe, did the research, and decided that my best bet was to make a slurry from scratch, as a compromise between leftover sludge and a 4 hour apple juice...

    newbie hard cider experiment

Put it in a dark, cool corner for a year, and it should mellow right out. i made a cider last year, and what you're describing is giving me a flashback. after 3 months i was ready to toss it, but i didn't need the jug for anything, so i let it be. We cracked it open tonight for the new year's...

    Noob in NH

since this is the first time I'm away from my father's homebrew equipment and experience, I'm calling myself a n00b. I had been brewing at the Old Man's side since I was a wee lad, but it will be different without his steady hand on my shoulder. Until i can afford a brew pot and grain and/or...

    First Batch

I use bleach for my sani, but only because I'm cheap and am able to rinse with 170F water. I'm betting that nothing grows in those pipes.

    First timer from Rochester NY

If the old brew wives could make a decent beer with a big wood fired pot and some barrels, you and i should have no problem making do with our sanitized plastic buckets and glass jugs. good luck!

Stumbleupon brought me here, and I've been lurking ever since.

Started my Raspberry must for the skeeter pee

It looks great, just barely started bubbling... And i can't stop staring at it. It's just beautiful. Anyone else have this problem when they use a jug for their primary?

    Using a bigger fermentation bucket

you might not have to worry about the airlock with the seran wrap. I'm sure the CO2 will find a way to leak out from under the band. I have only used a 6.5 gallon bucket for all my gallon batches. Never had a problem.
