Nope. First time I've heard of this. Hopefully, they'll send you a replacement quickly. Ed :mug:

Hi. As long as the BT remains connected, you get alerts (mash, MO, boil, hop additions, other additions, etc.) based on how you set up your recipe in the GF App. If you're near the GF, the box itself will also provide an audible signal and prompt. Hope this helps. Ed :mug:

    What are you drinking now?

My Bananas Foster beer. I started with 5 gallons of a really rich, malty Scottish ale, then split into two smaller kegs. One the Bananas Foster, the other a Creme Brulee. Both beers are very flavorful and tasty without being overly sweet or cloying. Ed :mug:

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Hi all. Sorry, late post. Brewed a nice, basic Kölsch on Saturday. Should be ready near the end of May. Perfect hot weather, lawnmower beer! Ed :mug:

Hi. With two layers of Reflectix, I think they work about the same. As @elreplica once said: "I have the reflectix and imagine it's just as good as the jacket. However I have the jacket cuz it looks cool and figured I'd put a tuxedo on it..." and I agree wholeheartedly. It looks and works great...

Glad you found it and took care of the problem. It would suck getting that into one of your beers! Ed :mug:

    Grainfather!!

Hi. If it's not the spring (which is bigger than that,) then it's a rogue piece of metal that shouldn't be there. If possible, I'd remove it. Ed :mug:

    Grainfather!!

Hi. I really don't recommend using the grain basket as a hop spider. @Frilock 's point of having to clean the grain pipe before re-use makes sense, but more importantly, it's a boil over waiting to happen, as well as running a real risk of scorching your wort. I use hop pellets in a 1 gal paint...

    Grainfather!!

@pkgmsu2000 Hi, you did read it! :) In the instructions it says..."Allow the mash liquid to drain into the boiler, gently press the top perforated plate down (12) until it comes to rest against the grain. Gently pour the prepared sparge water over the grain. Keep the water level approx 10 mm...

    Grainfather!!

Hi. You gave a really good rundown of your process and figures. So without going into too detail, here's my take. I've found the GF calculations overestimate not only the boil off rate, but the grain absorption rate as well. My boil off rate is closer to 0.5 gal/hour, and my grain absorption...

    Grainfather!!

Hi. I "squeeze" the snot out of mine after the sparge while it finishes draining. I take a 3-pound coffee can and set it upside down on the top plate and then put some weight on the can to help push. When it's mostly done draining, I move the grain pipe with weighted can off the GF to a plastic...

    Grainfather!!

May I recommend that you try it before you go to the trouble of machining a new bottom screen? Here's a really good link that explains how it's done. I usually use 2-3% water (by weight) the day before, and give the malt plenty of time to get right, then mill right before doughing in. You'll...

That's exactly the same one I use. Are you conditioning your grain? Ed :mug:

    Grainfather!!

Hey all. I've got a bunch of spare GF parts just sitting here that I'd be willing to sell at a good price. All are new/unused except the original control box. I can provide pictures if needed/wanted, and I've provided retail links below so you can double check my prices. Please PM me if you're...

    Grainfather!!

Are you possibly milling your grain too fine? The only other thing I can think of is not pushing the overflow inlet all the way down onto the top screen, which would allow loose grain to go down the overflow pipe. The little bit of gunk I normally get in the bottom is a bit of grain flour that...

@gotbeer74 . I'd be happy to send you the pics I posted via PM. Just let me know which ones. Was it the splatter screen ones? Ed :mug:
