    Grainfather!!

Hi. Even with a transformer, it's still going to have the same amperage draw on the circuit. The only way to get the benefit of a 220v GF, and for it to work as intended, is to put it on a true 220v circuit. Look at the bright side, you saved yourself $70! Ed

    Grainfather!!

Hi @shortyz Are you sure about 2lbs? One pound of rice hulls has about the same volume as a gallon, four ounces is about a quart. I've never had to use more than four ounces even with an oatmeal milk stout that was super heavy with oats to get a good flow. Then again, I condition my grain and I...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

No, I wouldn’t. It’s already moved into a keg, so why risk racking again? We’re it me, I’d go ahead and put it on gas at about 12psi and let it rest at 40*F for a week or so (kind of like a mini lagering.) At 12psi, it’ll slowly carbonate and let the beer smooth out. My problem was having the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. I’d let it sit for a few more days to let the yeast clean up. I suspect if you keg this too early, you’ll wind up with a pretty “green” beer that may or may not age out correctly. Are you in a hurry? Ed

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. I haven't made it with Amarillo, but I have finished (aroma & flavor) with Ahtanum, which is similar. I'd give it a try, but just use it to finish. Amarillo is very popular in dry hopping because of its aroma. If you do, please let us know how it comes out. Ed

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. My last batch I think did .5oz Cascade at 20 min, and .5oz Ahtanum @ 5 min. Ed

    Grainfather!!

Hi. Sure, it’s an easy fix. Just make sure to get a heavy duty 3 pole plug rated for 20 amps such as this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Legrand-Pass-and-Seymour-20-Amp-125-Volt-Straight-Plug-PS5366XCCV4/100189052. Cut the old plug off, carefully strip the outer case an conductors to length, match...

    Creme Brulee Beer

Hi all. Rather than hijack the Centennial Blonde thread, I thought I'd provide the information here. Here's where I've shared the recipe on Brewer's Friend. You'll need to tweak your water additions based on your local water, or you can building it from scratch using DI or RO. I checked and I...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi all. Rather than hijack Biermuncher's thread, I've moved the information to a new thread here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/creme-brulee-beer.664253/ Ed

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. Yes, the Creme Brûlée beer was really good and well received. I’ll be happy to share the recipe. The flavorings & extracts may have a little color, but not enough to change the color of your batch (i.e. it’s not like food coloring.) I also keg, so your question is appropriate. I normally add...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. Glad you found it useful. I've got three recommendations right off the top of my head. the first is 000Flavors. They have a wide variety of concentrated flavorings. I used them when I made a Creme Brulee and Bananas Fosters dessert beers (I used a Scottish Ale as a base.) I also recommend...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi Hiphop! First, let me tell you right up front that I'm going to speak heresy for the fruity beer purists out there. I've brewed with purées before, as well as real fruit, real vanilla, etc. What I've found is the results are not as good, or as predictable, as using a flavor concentrate. There...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Hi. I can't speak to Falconer's Flight, but I can tell you that I've made two or three version of this beer finishing with Ahtanum, and it makes a truly remarkable, easy drinking beer. Ahtanum is a very mild hop with a floral nose and a slight citrusy taste. It also has a very low AA% (~3.5%,)...

What did I cook this weekend.....

Hi! I guess this should be posted on the "what did I smoke this weekend" thread, but here goes. I used 6lbs of 88% lean burger from Costco (I'm too lazy to grind all that beef) and 1.5 lbs of pork belly that I ground myself, mixed well, and seasoned/cured with this mix from Amazon (but I also...

What did I cook this weekend.....

Hi All! For dinner, I grilled some asparagus and some of my homemade jalapeño & poblano sausage. Of course, you have to wash it down, so I had a nice glass of BM's Centennial Blonde. Ed

    What are you drinking now?

A glass of Biermuncher's Centennial Blonde (my sixth batch.) Still outstanding! Ed

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Enjoying a glass of this tonight! A simply delightful beer that everyone should make at least once. This is from my sixth batch. Ed

    What are you drinking now?

One of the first beers I made back in December, 2014. YES! December, 2014. This beer is 4 years old and still tastes pretty darn good! Ed

    Grainfather!!

@skleice I think you are absolutely correct. Rice hulls or conditioning grains give the recirculating wort much freer access to the entire grain column. Ed
