    Pliny The Elder Dilema

All good advice above. I brewed a Stone Ruination clone and had the same problem too. I did try to do a filtering with a paint strainer bag around the auto siphon, all it gave me was headaches with a clogged strainer bag and a painfully slow siphon, and adding time to transferring. from pot...

    Things a Homebrewer Thinks

When my neighbor first saw me outside brewing, he asks me "whatcha doin, cookin meth?" and laughs. Me: SHUT UP!! Someone hears that and sees me, I'm getting raided anyway, just cause of you. Then you ain't getting any beer.

    Star San leak

I haven't had a cracked bottle cap, like the other posters, but I have had a bottle completely leak out all over. I stored it in a cardboard box, and it fell over inside the box. The cap on the storage side was loose to let more air in to transfer to measuring side easier. Dummy me left it loose...

    Long Ireland Celtic Ale

So for Thanksgiving I picked up a six pack of Long Ireland Celtic Ale from the local beer distributor (Daves Bellport Beer and Soda- AWESOME shop, best place I get my brews from). Now I bought it cause I have had this while out on the town as a tap, but this time was a huge difference from tap...

    Stainless Steel Bottles

I ordered 2 samples. A 26 oz bottle and a 30 oz bottle. I realized after I ordered the 26 oz that it allowed me to order other items for free samples, so I tried to get it. Guess we'll find out in a few days if they both show up.

Immersion chiller input to top or bottom.

I usually do cold in bottom, hot out of top of coil. The hottest part of the wort is the top, like any other fluid. It really will not make much of a difference in rate of cooling cause by the time the water has hit the bottom of the coil, it has already been exposed to the hottest fluids around...

Remove and Save Beer Bottle Labels

Definitely +1 on the Oxiclean soaks. I use a cooler of hot ater and 1-2 scoops of Oxiclean. Labels usually fall off in an hour or 2, or just a small peel off after soak. Some fall off very fast and some take more time. A green scrubbie and the glue comes right off the bottles. That is how I...

Ridiculous local brew laws, pro or home?

There has to be a way around it, there are other micros up there that already are established and never hit those numbers. Hopefully it's just a formality of the law they do not enforce. I would ask the ownerships how they got by it. Hopefully there's an owner or two that's willing to take you...

Why does it hurt sometimes to smell the air in fermenter?

It's the bending over to stick your head in the bucket!!!! It hurts your back. :)

    Think its too late?

Thanks Pie-Man. I usually brew 10 weeks before being ready for most batches I've done, 1 month primary then bottle for 6 weeks is my usual practice so I lost my time guess. I get good results with that, so thats what I keep doing for my practice. Going to do the starter anyway and brew in 3...

    Think its too late?

Ordered an AHS Holiday Stout kit on Monday, still waiting on delivery. Want to brew/bottle in time for Christmas. Have not been able to brew earlier due to my knee, blew it out Labor Day and now really catching up and able to do this. I know the time frame for it to be ready for Xmas, but...

    Brew Day Question! Ruination Clone

Definitely, step it up. I just brewed a Ruination, in dry hop now. Mine was at 1.088 with an alcohol boost. Man that thing was ROCKIN' fermenting. Thought is had enough head space in a 7 gal ale pail, wrong. Enjoy the Ruination.

    2 Micron air stone

Hmmm, watching this one closely. And I thought it was mine or the pump but I could not find which of the 2 it would be. Boiled the crap outta my stone for 15 mins and well over a half hour and still nothing. Blow thru the stone and I get restriction, but it blows. Put it on the pump, nothing at...

    Wooden Beer Crates

Wow, those are really great looking, BRAVO!! Thanks for the pictoral, it actually helped me out on my next set of boxes. My last ones came out good, but nowhere close to these as I started with 1x12 pine and also not having the advanced wood shop that ya'll got. I'm doing mine on down time out...

    Hurricane preparedness tip

I filled both of my 6.9 gal primaries, the 5 gal sanitizing bucket, 2 3 gal, pots and the tub. Leaving for work in am and expecting to be there for 2-3 days. Still didnt fill the carbor or my 10 gal pot. I just don't trust my bottling bucket home alone filled for that amount of time yet.
