    How many yeast strains do you horde?

    Peering into my garage refrigerator I see lots of yeast. Mason jars, vials, and petri-dishes. Some of I have only used once and will likely never use again. Others are my goto yeasts. I like not having to buy yeast with each batch. I like mixing yeasts to try to coax out characteristics...

    Is there no such thing as premium bottling equipment?

    I recently heard of a butt king wand. You might want to try one of those. Just make sure you get the right size. On a serious note. What about a bottoms up system for home brewers? It could be called bottles up.. https://youtu.be/wnZ08QvOFMc

    Who to trust?

    I would trust both of them. Can you prove that you got these results from the same recipe? Take screen prints and post them that show the difference?

    using old yeast

    I have used (and reused old) wlp400 before. The yeast never got a substantial krausen. The yeast also seems to start and stop thru the fermentation. Check the gravity on the starter to make sure you aren`t actually fermenting.

    Could the taste be from a garden hose that has been sitting outside in the sun prior to filling your kettle? Could you have used bleach of any other detergent in your cleaning process? Let us know what worked for you. Good luck.

    Harvesting from La Fin Du Monde?

    Harvesting yeast is fun. It is also practical and empowering. I have harvested successfully with yeast from a Rouge Dead Guy Ale XS, Hoegaarden, and recently with Fin du Monde. The Fin du Monde bottle dregs were stepped up a few times until I had my starters worth plus a little more that...

    High FG - All-Grain Brown Ale

    Hey Brew_G. It looks like a mighty fine beer. The only way to tell if you F'd up is to know the terminal gravity of your wort before bottling ....or to send me a six pack :D. You mention the difficulties in maintaining mash temp, did you perform an iodine test to ensure starch conversion...

    Is yeast farting or burping during fermentation?

    What do you think? Is yeast burping or farting during fermentation? Do they even have a hole where they excrete CO2 or does it just pass silently thru the cell wall? If you have a different idea, what is it? For some reason I visualize fat yeast sitting around couch eating sugar make...

    Any suggestions??? Visiting "the good beer store" in Maine

    Ok, well here is my humble haul. This store is way out in the middle of nowhere. There are plenty of places to get good beer in the area without having to drive out to "the good beer store". That said. The staff was friendly although didn`t really know anything about beer. She helped pack...
