Any tips for brewing my first AG BIG beer

Since you are still planning you should make your day long enough to do a partigyle. I am glad I did when I made my barleywine. It gives you something to drink while waiting for the big beer to condition. Good Luck!

first brew in 25 years! Yeast starter question

What took you so long??? Well anyways, welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your brewday. You won't hurt the beer by pouring in the whole starter. Sometimes when my volume is a little low I do the same thing and pour the whole starter in the wort. You are only blending your starter "beer"...

    Canada Grain Supply

Right, I live in Canada but further east in Magog, Quebec. Just letting zenenviro know that the wine homebrewing shop might be an option for bulk grain. At least for me make wine is way more popular than beer in this location. If you have a wine making shop nearby give them a call and see if...

    Canada Grain Supply

Hey Zenenviro, The best price for me for bulk grains is to get them from the distributor thru the local homebrew shop...except the local homebrew shop is actually a wine making shop since making beer is not very popular here. The wine shop has access to large homebrew distributor and they...

    What's your next brew? Why?

My next beer is a session-able Simco IPA. Because two pints of my DIPA is too many. :drunk:

    Stuck vorlauf

Hey Kevy, Have you checked your ball valve? Once I had a single grain lodge inside the ball valve. I could not drain well with it in there. I had to get a toothpick and poke it around until if came out. Don't get discouraged. It happens. I am sure you will get it next time. Cheers.

    MACS IPA Criteque

Based on the grain bill, I think you made a mistake on units of measure for hops and yeast. Did you mean oz and not g? And if you did are you really planning 21.75 oz of hops in 5 gallons of beer?

    German Pilsner Malt Ideas?

Mine is 50/50 wheat and Pils. I hop with Saaz. My wife likes the addition of a ounce or two of orange/lemon zest with a half ounce of toasted coriander in the last 10 mins of the boil. I ferment with dregs from a bottle of Hoegaarden (WLP400). In fact, I just brewed this in January.

    German Pilsner Malt Ideas?

Pilsner malt doesn't mean you have to use lager yeast. Ale yeast works just fine. I have made IPA's, a Belgian DarK Strong, and Witbier with Pils as a base malt. I will be brewing a variant of this reciepe for spring @EdWorts Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch. Enjoy!

    IPA and Yeast

Sorry Nicknack, But, you are missing the point of homebrewing. Homebrewing is all about doing what you want. That is what a lot of us actually do, whatever we want. :ban: There are plenty of valid reasons to pitch over and under whatever a calculator tells you. And the only thing that...

    Want That "Viniq" Look

This is cool. I have never seen it before. The effect is memorizing. A Google search came up with a recipe for about 1/4 tsp per 1.5 cups of liquid (vodka and syrup). The other says a dash per drink. So you probably don't need a lot for 750ml of wine. Check out what each link says about...
