How big is your fermenter? When doing BIAB we usually go full volume water to grain.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Slightly off topic. I spent the winter of 62-63 at the Navy Training Center north of Chi Town. Never was so cold in my life. We went 35 days w/out it going above zero and the coldest was -25. Then they sent me to Hawai`i and I've never left. LOL

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Raw beans? Not sure. Just easier to let the pro's do what they do best. I can buy roasted beans or already ground either 100% or 10% just about anyplace on the island.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

With 84 pages of posts I'm not gonna try to read them all. LOL I may even have posted here years ago. LOL Living here on O`ahu all I have to do is go on a short hike at the right time of the year and I can harvest all the coffee cherries I want. I did this about 20 years ago w/my since...

    Imperial yeast

Don't have it here in Hawai`i yet. Seems pretty expensive and I'm not impressed by a label that says ORGANIC.

Beginner looking for some advise: Move to smaller secondary or brew smaller batches?

Brewing 2 5 gallon batches a day how often? You gonna have a whole lot of beer. Do you drink that much or do you have a lot of friends? Me I do 2 gallon batches giving me 17 bottles on average. Pretty much only me or one other guy drinking so I don't really want 100 bottles of the same stuff.

Just transferred 1st batch 2 secondary to dry hope and tested gravity.

LOL Hear is your Blasting. LOL Enjoy it when done.

    What's Your Fermentation Capacity?

I use either an apt. sized fridge of which I have 4 or a 7 cu.ft. freezer. I can put one 2 gallon bucket in the fridges or two 5 gallon buckets in the freezer. I could also "stuff" the freezer w/5 of the 2 gallon buckets. Being in Hawai`i I only have to worry about bring things DOWN to...

Indeed so now when I go to order my supplies I have to divide the oz number by 16 as the scale at the HBS works with lbs and oz. And don't even talk about metric to this "old man". LOL

How often do you brew a lager?

Ok Schwarzbier has good taste. Don't think I'v had a Rauchbier. Pilsners yea tastless. Of course this all could be due to my age. At 74 I don't taste as many "tastes" as when I was younger. LOL

    German IPA

Mahalo (thanks) for the nice words. Next I'll attempt to double the size of my First Place American Imperial Stout. I have most of the ingredients already but I've never done a 4 gallon batch as I usually do 2 gallon, 17 bottle batches. The last one mellowed for a little over a year in...

    German IPA

Checked SG during the mash and man it was low. Post boil was lower than predicted Pre boil according to BeerSmith. Then as I was putting it into the fermenter I realized I screwed up royally. Although above I said I did 4.75 lbs in reality it was only 2.75. LOL....Dummy, that's what happens...
