What To Brew (as a Noob)

I agree with jayhem on the English Brown Ale. I would also brew a Scottish Ale. I have found that those two have been very popular with everyone I have served.

    Taps/shanks

I have an old fridge that I've turned into a kegerator but now I need shanks and a manifold and whatever else. I'm going to drill a hole in the side and run my CO2 line out it. Can someone offer suggestions on what other equipment I will need and cheap places to get it?

How do I store the starter. How much do I split it?

    Reusing yeast

Can someone give a complete breakdown on how I can save money on yeast. I currently have a breakfast stout in the primary that contains Irish ale yeast. What steps should I take to be able to reuse, save, freeze, or whatever to keep from buying smack packs as often?

    Scottish ale

I hope someone can give me some good advice. Two weeks ago I brewed a Scot Wee Heavy and a smaller Scottish Ale. They have both been in primary for 14 days. Does anyone have an opinion on how long to secondary and how long to leave each in the keg before carbing.

    Wee Heavy

I was afraid you might say that. Thanks.

    Wee Heavy

My Wee Heavy called for a ton of grain. It was really chugging away for about 3 days then airlock activity stopped. Is that uncommon for a beer that big?

    Adding DME

Can anyone tell me when to add DME. Do I add it before I begin to boil ?

    Scottish ale mash

I need some help w my water measurement. When mashing I do a two to one ratio of water to grain. Today I'm making a big Scottish that calls for 18 lbs of grain for a 5 gallon batch. If I use the same ratio I will end up w too much liquid. Can anyone help

    Advice on carbonating

Oh ok. I didn't know it took that long. I will just shake it. I usually go with 30 lbs for ten minutes. Do you think that's suitable for a brown ale?

    Advice on carbonating

I usually force carb my beers in about ten minutes. I was thinking about carbing my brown ale a little slower. Does anyone have advice on how long and at what pressure?

    Bitter beer

I did jostle it around a bit when I was checking to see how much was in it. I hope that's the explanation. Thank y'all for all the advice.
