    Electric Brewing Question Please

How far is FAR? Did you do a voltage drop calculation? With 30amps you could use #10 wire and use one of the yellow terminals posted above and then just make an extension cord out of the #8 so cord that you have? To figure voltage drop you just need the load and distance and an APP from the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be trying my first attempt of an all grain Fuller's IPA clone... At the least it'll be brewed in the spirit of it... Cheers! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Home Brew mobile app

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Thanks for pointing that out... I'll have to read through that this weekend but glancing through I did notice that under "409.21 Overcurrent Protection (A) General. Industrial control panels shall be provided with overcurrent protection in accordance with Parts 1, 2, and 4 of Article 240"...

    Suwanee beer fest

YES... Cooter Brown is the name for sure... you're correct about the IPA's; you gotta have one and honestly I'll order the Jekyll because it's local... there's definitely a coolness factor to be drinking a local craft beer. I've also heard that it's a good time if you visit the brewery for a...

    !2 gauge wire question

Well... without getting into a lot of BS... all of your household appliances should be UL listed for their purpose; meaning they are approved to plug into the receptacle. Technically if you cut the end off of your motor cord that voids the UL listing. Underwriters Labs deems these appliances...

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

What year code book are you referencing? In the 2011 code 310.15(B)(16) is the old 310.16.... Are you referring to TABLE 310.15(B)(17) (formerly Table 310.17) Allowable Ampacities of Single-Insulated Conductors Rated Up to and Includluding 2000 Volts in Free Air, Based on Ambient Temperature...

    !2 gauge wire question

It really doesn't matter.... I run more than the three pid's on the #14... pids, lights, pumps and meters so I have one fuse to handle that load. I *could* downsize the wires to the pids from the hot bus but then I should fuse that wire change so the wire is protected from overcurrent.
  19. Jerz

    !2 gauge wire question

The wires to your pid's should be protected by an appropriate sized fuse within your panel. I used #14 gauge to my pids and have my hot bus protected by a fuse that is not more than 15amps. My two 5500watt heater elements have 10 wire in the control panel between the contactors and the heater...

23amps and 14gauge wire, only used in panel?

I agree... but it is a good point that #12/3 SO cord could be used for the 5500W heating elements at 240V I guess. I've got #10/3 STOW cord with 30amp cord and plugs... It would save a little money plus the #12 is easier to work with than the #10... so very interesting point in this particular...
