    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

That sounds like a lot of metal for the WiFi signal to penetrate. But have you tried a WiFi repeater? You can make one out of a $3 ESP8266. It works great for me.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Mine runs differently I guess. The discharge water is very hot - I measured it once last year at 175F, but that was only a couple feet after the condenser. I'm planning a brew in the next week or so and will check it again.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

@McMullan - you should get hotter discharge water than that. If it's not near hand-burning hot, I don't think it's working correctly. When my steam condenser is running, the discharge water is too hot to hold your hand under.

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

The signal from the AP to inside the box (through the brick wall) will be the one of concern. You could install WiFiMan or similar app on your smartphone to see what your signal strength is inside the cooler/box. If the signal is good enough it may be worth a try. Or, just set up an ESP8266 as...

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

As @DuncB mentioned, the bare minimum you need is a D1 Mini, cable and the instructions to make a repeater here: Homemade WiFi exender using the ESP8266 (or many other places on the Internet) The display and other stuff are cool. But if you want to get a repeater up and running quick and...

Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

Is your wiring secure? Not just a loose nest of Dupont wires? And you're saying "relay" which means to me a mechanical relay and not an SSR. If Fermentrack was not turning the heat on at the time it went bad, I don't suspect a bad relay (though it certainly could be a bad relay). I'd expect a...

Sanity check before pressure fermenting in corny kegs for the first time

If I just use the same corny kegs I ferment in as serving kegs (no transfer after fermentation), I'd have less stuff to buy. It appears many people have success with this process and like its simplicity. I just might do this instead. If I filter through a mesh bag when filling the kegs, it...

    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

I had the same question/worry. I just made a WiFi repeater out of an ESP8266 D1 Mini. It works perfect and only costs the few dollars of the D1 Mini. It works perfect with the iSpindel inside the corny keg and the D1 Mini just outside the corny. Solid connection and data shows up in Fermentrack...

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

I used the generic ESP8266 repeater set up that I linked above and it's working great.

    Fermenting in a corny keg?

Question - is it generally bad practice to use an iSpindel when pressure fermenting in a corny keg? I'm thinking for two reasons (one catastrophic). 1. The iSPindel can't take the pressure and will fill up with beer and contaminate the beer. 2. The WiFi signal can't penetrate the Stainless...

    iSpindle Concentrators, Repeaters, Bridges, Hubs

I just found this thread. Very timely, as I plan on doing my first pressure fermenting in corny kegs and wondered if my iSpindel would be able to get a signal out of the keg. Maybe with one of these sitting right next to the keg it'll have a better chance. Can this be used without the display...

Sanity check before pressure fermenting in corny kegs for the first time

I'm going from my plastic conical fermenter with heat/cold temp control to pressure fermenting in corny kegs. I've read a lot of posts. It appears to me that many of the threads assume you have only one fermenting keg and one serving keg. I'll have two of each. I think I've understood most of...

First time keg fermenting - check my process

On this BeerSmith video, Chris White and John Blichmann talk about doing a test ferment in the +80F range. I haven't heard if they've done it yet though. They did a test brew and the results are pretty interesting...though the ferment temps weren't outrageously high or low.

    Dream Car! PICTURES!!!

Just one dream car? No way. I have lots of dreams. But at the top of the list - Ferrari 250 GTO.

First time keg fermenting - check my process

I'll hopefully be pressure-fermenting in corny kegs the next time I brew. Keep in mind, I've not done this yet. But I've watched a lot of videos on the subject. Most say that the pressure keeps krausen down considerably, but still need enough headspace to not clog up the fittings. Floating dip...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I remember seeing that on my install. I clicked on the link to go back to the master branch and have not seen that message since. You should be fine doing that also, I believe.

Multi-part question - but basically switching from plastic conical to fermenting in corny keg

My plan is getting rid of the conical fermenter with heat and chilling since it takes up so much room, and going to just the two corny kegs to ferment in. If I do this, will I need to control the temps to the 1/2 degree like I was able to do with my old setup? If so, can I use my kegerator as a...

Keg Cop: Keg Monitoring and Control

I'm banking on the flow meter. Gotta be a lot better. Will be ordering the PCBs soon, I hope.

Keg Cop: Keg Monitoring and Control

Yeah, I guess auto-tare will just reset the new weight to zero. Not what you want it to do. If I'm understanding this correctly now.

Keg Cop: Keg Monitoring and Control

@DaveS and @LBussy - I use Home Assistant to control a lot of stuff at my house - IoT types of things. I use load cells on my bed to detect when my wife or I are in bed to turn off lights and turn the alarm on when we're both in bed after a certain time at night. It uses that weight info to...
