    First IPA...its explosive

Made my first IPA and finished brewing it yesterday. I put it in my closet with an airlock. Came home today with the airlock all gummed up and beer laying on the lid of my primary. This is a LOT more active than the hefe that I made prior. I put on a blow off tube into a bucket and it is just...

A hop cone in the glass

IDK if you've ever been to a bar that had a blueberry ale and they put blueberries in it. Its always a pain in the ass since you have to keep your top like 1/8" from the inside of the glass and basically siphon in your sip of beer while keeping the berries at bay.

A hop cone in the glass

I think it would float and get in the way all too much while trying to drink.

    General AG Writeup?

Im sure a google search will turn up plenty of write ups but I thought it would be better to get my info from the source. I'm still a novice and this doesn't mean I want to start brewing AG next week...I just want to inform myself for later down the line and it seems pretty interesting. Thanks.

Hefe extract...when to add to boil

thanks for the tips and info everyone. I went with a 2.5 gal/2.5 lb LME for 45 min with the 3/4 oz. hallertau Took off the heat and added about 3.5 lb of LME instead of the full 4.5 left and tossed the 1/4 oz hops for the last 5 min. Also, basically hit the goal OG of 1.050 which landed at...

Hefe extract...when to add to boil

I did some research. The recipe calls for 7lb wheat extract and then boiling for 60 min while adding 3/4 oz hallertau at the start of the 60 min and 1/4 oz in the last 5 min for aroma. I plan on adding around 3 lb LME at start and adding only about 1/2 oz. of the hallertau at start and using...

Hefe extract...when to add to boil

I've read that some people add their extract later in the boil so the wort has a lighter color. Any suggestions on when to add the extract to my Hefe? The AHS kit has the extract added then boiled for 60 min.

Adding water to wort for 5 gallon recipe

Well I have only made one batch so far and some things like this got me thinking. Here is the exact technique that I used. Procedure: Begin by soaking the cans of LME in a bowl or pot of warm water to make it easier to get out of the can later. Fill your brewpot (preferably a...

Adding water to wort for 5 gallon recipe

Quick question on how you guys determine how much water to throw the wort on top of. The last recipe I had was 2 gallons into the boil and 3 into the primary. The first observation is that obviously some water boils off but you also add liquids such as the LME. My question is...would i be...

Any tips on my first Hefe?

ya...i heard WLP300 is good for a more banana taste. I also live in MA so getting it at temps around 68 in the basement shouldn't be a problem. and a blowoff tube is duly noted :ban:
