British Yeasts, Fermentation Temps and Profiles, CYBI, Other Thoughts...

Personally I really like the S-04 it has done a great job in a special bitter I made. It ferments and flocs out fast. It seems to ferment well even in the lower 60's. Just finishing up a batch and brewed another one last week. Ferment was done in 4 days at about 66 deg. Love how fast this dry...

    Has anyone tried S-189?

Been drinking the Cr Ale from this yeast for a couple of weeks now. As most lager yeast ferments it hit just the right flavor about 5 weeks after fermentation. I have a O-Fest 2nd gen from the Cr Ale and a Bock cold conditioning right now. Will see how they taste around Christmas time. This will...

    Has anyone tried S-189?

Brewed last night. split the active starter between five carboys. Airlock was already starting to push the water after only about 30 mins from shaking the wort to oxygenate. Will see how the ferment is progressing today after work. So far this fermentis dry yeast seems very fast at starting...

    Maintaining a house yeast

Just dumped that starter I made, started to have have a slight after taste. It was used in 9 batches. Went and bought 2 new vials and made another starter last night. Need to get a scope, only real way to monitor the yeast. Can probably safely do at least 6 batches as long as I keep feeding the...

    Maintaining a house yeast

I just came across this thread. I've been maintaining a starter in a 5 gal carboy of a Lager yeast. I make 24 gal batches and use a 1/2 gal of the starter (with the liquid) for each 5 gal batch. I'm am now on the 6th or 7th use of this strain. I keep about a 1/2 gal in the carboy after pitching...

New Garage and the Phoenix Brewery

Have not visited this thread for a while. Going through the old messages I saw about someone mentioning doing something for the fireman. My neighbors and I had our 5th annual Pig Roast fundraiser for the fire company. We have it at the shop and use several backyards with live music and lots of...

New South Central Pa grain buy

Went smooth and quick unloading the grain. It helps with a good group to unload it fast. Nice meeting everyone and seeing a few old friends as well. Those whom still need to pick up your grain, PM with days that will work for you.
