    Campdem tablets

Thanks, I threw 1/2 tablet in 11 gals of 170* f sparge water. Making oatmeal stout. Second time, the first was awesome. First runnings are like syrup. David :)

    Campdem tablets

I read here that campdem tabs will remove clorine. It also says on the package Potassium Metabilsulfite. How do I use em? Or did I buy the wrong stuff? David :)

    High Temp Mash

I wuold ferment what you have and start again. It may be good. If its not, then why mess with it? The next batch will be better. David

    Pitching Rate

I can't see any bigger than a 2 Litre flask, but to each his own. 1 litre is supposed to be big enough for a 5 gallon batch of regular gravity, I do some 11 gallon batches, so I went to a 2 litre. The 2 good things about a stir plate is you get MORE YEAST (double) from the same size starter...

    Strange Yeast Formulation

That is what S-04 looks like. It settled out from mine in a few days. I got 2 cups of pure yeast from my conical on the third day. I was shocked, this was the first ever dump of yeast. Other yeasts are not like that. David :)

Brewing the Hangover out of the Beer...

Post # 16 finally answered the question. LOW ferment temps make lower level alcohols which are easier to metabolize. I have limits for health reasons (diabetic). We take starch, convert it to sugar, yeast converts it to alcohol, our bodies convert it back to sugar..... And that IS why...

Are plasma cutter burns on kegs sanitary?

Yes you sure could do it with a round (rat tail) file. It won't take THAT long. I use an electric die grinder, but they are $300.00. Bring it by the shop, I'll do it for free.... :) The outside should have been cleaned off with a wire wheel. You can do it with a wire brush, SS preferably...

Are plasma cutter burns on kegs sanitary?

That is one **** job. Sorry, but it should have been purged with argon before and during welding. A grinding stone or carbide burr is the only way to clean that up. It will not be perfect unless you run a drill bit through there. A die grinder with a carbide burr would be best. A dremel...

    AHS Fat Tire Clone

When I made it, I accidently toasted 4 kg of malt instead of 4 lbs. It should be interesting. Wyeast IS going to come out with the fat tire yeast in October. I have 5 gals unfermented in a cube. Wonder if it will keep that long. I will let you know what the first batch is like in a few weeks...

    Bad smelling liquid yeast

Thanks, It probably would have made it, but.... For the price of a new package peace of mind was worth it. The new starter is going now. Gotta step it up to 2 litres by Saturday. The new package smelled WAY better. David :)

    AHS Fat Tire Clone

I brewed a fat tire clone using the recipe from 365 beers. Its still fermenting..... David :)

    Bad smelling liquid yeast

Smack pack was Apr 20-09. I don't think it got warm, I bought it at lunch time, took it with me to where I eat lunch and had it put in the fridge. Picked it up after work, brought it home and put it back in the fridge. I have been washing and saving yeast from the dump valve. Once this one...

    Stainless steel conical fermenter

I got a response to the PM. Its sold. Getting my second one from Ebone. David :)

    Pitching Rate

I most always made a 3 litre starter for an 11 gallon batch in a one gallon glass jug. THEN I started hanging around here and now I have a one litre and 2 litre flask and stir plate. I am making a starter tonight for an 11 gallon batch I am brewing on Saturday. I will step it up to 2 litres...

    Bad smelling liquid yeast

I smacked inoculator pack of Wyeast 1084. Put 800 ml of wort in the flask, boiled it and let it cool thinking the smack pack would swell up while the flask cooled. When it was time to pitch, the pack had not swelled, so I opened it and poured it in. I smelled it and it was terrible. I don't...

    Bad fermentation from washed yeast

Did you aerate? Or put 02 to the wort, washed yeast needs it. David :)

Are plasma cutter burns on kegs sanitary?

I would use a 3m rolock disk, or a "cookie" on an electric drill spinning fast or a die grinder if you have one. You don't need or want a grinder. Even a scotch brite pad by hand may take it off. I work with stainless. Fine sand paper is about the limit. 220 grit give or take. If you have...

Wyeast 1272 American Ale II recipies

I just made a fat tire clone with 1272. I found it here Homebrewing Recipes and Articles It was called for in the recipe. I now have 6 jars of washed 1272 and 6 jars of 1056. Should be good for a year :) What temp is the "Higher range" I pitched it with a 1 litre starter last sunday at...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

How much YEAST is in a smack pack and how much is nutrient? I have been wondering about that. David :)
