    Good Morning HBT

Currently heating the strike water for a Bavarian Hefe. Listening to "Breakfast with the Beatles" (Shout out to the Seattle area brewers). Its clear and sunny. It is going to be a great day.

    How much to cut back?

I planted 2 centenial rhizomes this year. On of them has 2 shoots coming up but the other one has 5 shoots. They are not growing very fast. I assume it's because we have had hardly any sun yet. Should I cut off some of the ones with 5 shoots? Two of them are 3 inches tall, the other 3 are just...

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

Got my scoresheets back from Portland today. My English Mild scored a respectable 36. No place was given.

    BeerSmith Mash Question

I see what you mean. It now says "Batch sparge with 2 steps (Drain mash tun, 5.29gal) of 168.0F water" Does this mean, no mash out? Don't raise the temperature before you drain the tun the first time?

    BeerSmith Mash Question

I have been doing all BIAB and have BeerSmith pretty figured out for that. I am going to do my first "traditional" AG batch with a cooler mash tun on Saturday. I put my recipe in BS and have been setting up my equipment profiles. On the Mash Details tab, under Sparge it says: "Batch...

What beer must I try on my trip to Seattle this weekend?

Elysian does make great beers. I have never been that happy with the experience at Elysian Fields. There are tons of great places around the area depending on how far you can go and how much time you have. A couple of my favorites are: Naked City Brewery and Tap house 8564 Greenwood...

    NHC 2012 First Round Scoresheets

When is the judging in Portland going to happen? I have looked for a schedule but I must be missing it.

    6' Stainless steel shallow sink

You need a road trip anyway!:)

    6' Stainless steel shallow sink

Perfect for your brewing room. Put one of those commercial sprayer faucets and you could clean your pots so easy. I bought it for my garage and then found something I like better. It's an old darkroom sink. The top is stainless. I started to clean it up and its coming out nice. The bottom...

    Brew Magic

Didn't I read somewhere that Dogfish Head started out brewing 3 batches a day on his Sabco?

Malt Extract vs. All Grain brewing

A debate implies a right or wrong answer. This question is personal choice. Beer is about the process and good processes make good beer with all grain or extract. Plenty of medals have been won with both methods. I say chose the way you want. If you are making great beer then you are doing it...

    English Mild

Moorhouse Brewery (UK) brews a mild called "Black Cat" that is a very good example of the style. I have been comparing my attempts to them.

    BIAB with Blichmann

No, not for me. I only do 5 gallon batches and rarely go above 6% ABV so the 10 works great. Plus I don't have much head space so with a blanket wrapped around it I hardly loose any temperature in 60 minutes. If I want to use more grain, I can just use less that full boil water and top after...

    BIAB with Blichmann

I have a 10gal Boilermaker. I have taken the thermometer out and use a turkey fryer basket that fits perfectly on top of the dip tube. Just like Sevens setup in the sticky post. I have a custom made voile bag. I just did a 5 gallon batch stout that took 14lbs of grain. That was max for this setup.

    WANTED- Boilermaker boil screen

I am looking for the original Blichmann Boilermaker screen that fits on the dip tube. If you have switch to the Hop Blocker, I would be happy to buy your original screen.

    Coleman cooler question

Thanks. I only do 5 gallon batches right now. After doing a little more reading, I decided to go with the 36qt Coleman Xtreme. You have to admit though, the Coleman steel one in Stainless would have looked pretty good on the brewstand. :mug:

    Lager Troubles(esters)

Great. I just brewed my first lager. The fermentation went as expected and it is sitting in the beer fridge lagering as we speak. I started out at 65* per the wyeast package for 12 hours and lowered it to 50*. No you all have me worried it's going to suck. :)

    Coleman cooler question

Anyone ever use one of these coolers? It is supposed to have a recessed channel for better draining. I am curious if the current valve will just unscrew or if it's part of the housing. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009PURKE/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Full boil setup vs Fermentation chamber

Second that. The thing that made the most improvement for me was my fermentation chamber. Control the temperature!

    First starter question

I guess I should have just relaxed. Everything worked great. Obvious fermentation was happening in 8 hours. Thanks again for all the opinions.
