    Ground Up Brew Room Build

A bit of progress to update: The wall grout is now done, so I was able to put my rough-framed cabinet back in and my hoods. With the cabinet in place I was able to trim out the shelf that is going to be poured epoxy below the wood accent wall this weekend. I'm heading on vacation for a few...

Pineapple Milkshake IPA recipe help for lactose and fruit additions

So just to update, I ended up adding the rest of the lactose when I did the second dry-hop addition, it didn't have as much lactose punch as I was going for initially. I kegged this up (CO2 transfer) last weekend and tapped it early last week. Wow this is a really great beer! The pineapple...

Pineapple Milkshake IPA recipe help for lactose and fruit additions

Thanks guys. Since I wanted to do this last night I added .75lb of lactose, which was about 5% of my grist, and went with one 20oz can of the crushed pineapple. I figure I can taste it in a few days (I love my anvil fermenter with a spigot!) and see how it's shaping up, and I can add more...

Pineapple Milkshake IPA recipe help for lactose and fruit additions

All, I have to do a beer with pineapple for our latest club competition. I brewed up 5 gallons of a hazy on friday and planned after the fact to turn it into a pineapple milkshake IPA. I brew a ton of lagers and the occasional hazy so this is new territory for me. I've got two 20oz cans of...

    Ground Up Brew Room Build

Hah! Yeah thats temporary for the construction phase. I'm going to do a small collapsible shade I can pull up and down when the window is trimmed out.

If anyone is interested I've now got a thread detailing my brew room build as i'm getting closer to finishing up this big project, check it out here if you like.

    Ground Up Brew Room Build

A few more photos to bring this up to date to how things stand today: I have my stands welded, a dual burner stand for boiling split batches, and a single stand for my HLT In April this spring I did the cool wood accent wall with reclaimed wood from my place (old redwood decking) as well as...

    Ground Up Brew Room Build

In the summer of 2016 I built an 8x16 enclosed exterior porch on my place, intending to eventually turn it into a brew room. I've done a bit here and there between other big projects but am now focused on getting brewing in this room this summer. I'm proud that I've done everything outside of...

    Copper line for propane

Also copper conducts heat extremely well. I would be worried about exploding pipes. Yes it would look cool but i wouldn't do it.

Bar top epoxy recommendation for covering caps and coasters

Man looks great! I'm cranking along with other parts of my brew room, this shelf will be the last step, probably still a month or two out. i'll update for sure when I get it done.

    Post boil water additions

I've been doing water additions with great success for a few years now. However I'm a bit unsure on something new I was thinking of trying. I'm thinking of doing a split batch of a Belgian pale and a NEIPA this weekend. My water varies from near-Pilsn in the spring to this time of year it's high...

Easy & Cheap Stainless Vent Hood

Does anyone have advice for the type of fan to use with natural gas? I was all set to buy the 6" vortex fan but then saw the temp limit posted for that unit is 140F. The fan will be about 4' above the top of the kettles, with a metal hood i'm building connecting it to the ducting and then a...

Vortex 6" fan temperature limits a problem? Ventilation.

In a previous thread I detailed a bit on the brew room i'm building out. I'm building a natural gas powered brew room, connected to my house with a shared wall but not otherwise. I cut in my two exterior vents this weekend, I'm doing a small 4" fan over the HLT, and a big 6" fan over my dual...

No problem with grain dust in mash when milling into a bucket?

i mill into a bucket and carefull brush the dust that is stuck on the mill and the base into my bucket! As others have said thats very finely crushed grain with sugars! Unless you have tons and tons resulting in a stuck sparge dont throw it away.

Adding finished beer to boil for next batch?

OK suspicion confirmed. Bad idea. I like the idea of combining later. I can put the pils in some bigger bottles i have on hand with a little priming sugar, then just mix it in when I keg the saison. Thanks for the feedback!

Adding finished beer to boil for next batch?

I'm doing a fun local brewery competition this weekend, where I get 5 gallons of unhopped pilsner wort, then have to take it home do something fun to it and make my own beer and I have to violate the Rheinheitsgabot. I'm planning on doing a saison for the competition and presently have two...

    Ventilation fans...

Thanks all I have read that thread years ago, re-read just now. Some good tips there for sure. I'm planning on using rigid insulated ductwork, I have a super short run to get outside, like 2 feet. I may even be able to get away with no elbows at all, depends on how I like the hood height where...
