newbie to forum, love making wine etc. Apfelwein?

I asked the question about using cider, and cider should be fine. Some folks said you don't need to use "expensive" cider and just apple juice would be fine. But The cider I got was cheap anyway. I think you should go ahead and try it with your cider.

newbie to forum, love making wine etc. Apfelwein?

I've been reading this forum so long I wanted to chime in and encourage you to make Apfelwein ... but then I remembered I haven't made it yet myself. But still, I think you should make Apfelwein.

    Kicked out of the kitchen

This thread is a riot. After my first brew, my wife and sister in law got home and said "what's that smell?" I said, "smells good doesn't it!" She said, "no." I said, "well it smelled good while it was brewing, you should have been here while I was brewing!"

    My first Brew...

I didn't want to put my fermenter (first batch!) in the basement. Too cold. The only place over 65 degrees was the living room. So I put the fermenter on the bench of our baby grand piano. My wife is totally cool with it. She likes to joke that "tom is brewing beer on our piano." Now, the...

    NOTD (newbie of the day)

Dude, nobody on this board will look down on you for what beer you drink, what beer you make or what methods you use. This is a really cool, tolerant and forward-thinking place that will welcome you and help you. Even if you are from South Dakota.

    Brewin' in Philly

It would not have been a cheap shot if I was a Steelers fan, it would have been in good fun.

My first brew and "will my second recipe work?"

Just a suggestion, use oxi-clean and get the glue and labels off your bottles.

I did it my very first beer, my very first TAP!

Great job. Where are you going with the project now? Do you plan some sort of built in bar along the wall there? I'm envisioning maybe an L-shaped bar with a dry sink or something to catch the splashes as well as some sort of backsplash on the wall - tile or something. Of course it's fine just...

    Apfelwein with cider

Thanks. These replies were very helpful. As for price, I got the cider for $3.50 a gallon and have about 7 gallons in the freezer. So I don't think I can get juice much cheaper than that. But I get your point. I have a few gallon glass jugs and think I will try a few different combinations...

    Apfelwein with cider

Just bumping this thread. I plan to try the EdWort recipe using some farm cider I froze a couple months ago (I note that EdWort's recipe is for store-bought juice). Just wondering if there is any more input on this topic. The farm cider is much darker, rounder, and quite different from...

    Brewin' in Philly

I've been on the HBT for about a month. Great site, great people. I saw an interesting rant from Revvy about being pigeonholed after a fellow noob was wondering what the "home brewer" stereotype was. And so I thought I would say something about myself here to show the variety of people who get...

The obligatory "My First Brew!" thread (Dark Star Brown Ale)

Update on my first brew. Yesterday was bottling day. A new experience. It took me a while to figure out that the bottle filler and hose would not fully prime until I released some of the pressure at the bottom of the bottle filler. Also, i lost my syphon on the rack to the bottling bucket...

    feel like i'm cheating...cheers!

katja there's some good posts on 2.5 gallon batches. You might find after a couple practice runs that you are willing to experiment at that quantity. I for one would rather ruin my beer 2.5 gallons at a time.

Greetings from Beer Hell (Aka Alabama)

That Holmes thing was real? I thought it was made up. Oh, and how can you have a Home Brew store in a state where Home Brewing is illegal? I realize it may not be enforced, but it seems bold.

    Yet another first brew thread...

Interesting pics. My first brew, also a nut brown, I had the discipline not to open it up, but now I get to see your pics. cool. Thanks for the pics, fun to see.
