    Wheat Beer ?

I just racked my 1st AG wheat beer. It is sour! I am extremely anal about sanitizing everything that touches my beer, and there are no obvious signs of infection. I have read that this might be normal, but not sure. What say you? Thanks for the help in advance!:rockin:

    Another Immersion Chiller Build

I used my coil as an immersion chiller, but then made a reverse flow and decided to use the IC as as a heat exhanger - pre RF. The heat exchange takes most of the heat, I then can control the flow of the hose water through the RF, The RF output goes into the the heat exchange bucket and the...

    Motor to power JSP MALTMILL

I scraped gears, and chain from a kids pedal car, welded up, made drill mounts and now my barley mill is drill powered. Total cost $0. I use this drill for a rod building lather motor and for other turning DIY things, it comes out easy, and has worked for this purpose and many others for 20...

    Air compressor aeration

I do not have a quantitative way of testing ppm. I use qualitative measurements. Because I am use air, I can waste some, I pulse aerate. Rotate carboy, pulse, I do this for usually 15-20 minutes. Air foam will be near the top. I did do a test, and the yeast were happy with my method. I...

    Air compressor aeration

Have you used a compressor compared to an aquarium pump? I don't like wasting can's of 02, aquarium pump just so know WHY I do it, didn't produce enough pressure to work. And yes you are wrong, an air compressor is better than sloshing around, but not as good as 02, the point you made about 02...

    Nylon will not handle heat!

    Building a copper manifold

Use the thin red cutting disks. They make skinnier slits, a slit every inch. Not too deep, you can always deepen, but you can't take the cut back! Mine sucks the bottom of the MLT dry!

    J-B Weld or maybe Waterweld

Solder will fill up to 1/16" -1/8" gap sometimes more. Flux the hell out of both mating surfaces. Make sure both surfaces are hot solder to mating matierls not iron, and your chances should be could. I use larger solder for filling and smaller for smaller gaps, but its all about the solders...

    Attention new all grain brewers!

That's a lot of grain. I would have to have all the data to run through my database I designed to see what it says. What type of mash. I am showing that the 32.5 lbs of grains will capture 6.4 gallons. I am showing your total water volume, (using my deadspace measurements for my brewsystem)...

    Air compressor aeration

Totaly agree on the garage compressor NOT being used. Thought about it, then I drained the tank and was reminded of the condition of the tank, no tanks!

I forgot to mention that I capture all my cooling water in extra carboys and use to clean everything up afterwards.

Is is possible to do 5 gal. AG with one 7.5 gallon kettle?

I use a fermenting bucket to capture my liquor from the MashTun. Then drain the 8gal pot and pour the liquor from the bucket in, and start boil. I might lose about 30 minutes of time this way, but for now it works. I am going to get a 15gal boil pot so I can do either 5 gal or 10 gallon...

    Attention new all grain brewers!

Being new to AG (2 Successful batches), it's (IMHO) all about process, and sticking to it. You can either be all over the place trying to remember what to do when, etc. Or have a process down. I stumbled through my first batch, it worked out due to the fact I did a recipe that I had done as...

    120v Electric 5 gal Brewery

Copper tubing, make your own. You can use it as a heat exchange for anything. I have one with two coils. Inner coil, champagne bottle formed, out 5gal planter. I use to chill wort, not by immersing in poilpot, but by immersing in water and running wort through it and a reverse flow. I can...

No signs fermentation after 14 hours

Wheat beer brewed last weekend, yeast lag was close to 72 hours. Now its going bonkers. Be patient. I aerated, sterile a couple of times to help them multiply, but other than that. I crossed the fingers. This morning. The head is up to the top of the 6g and into blow-off tube!

    Zinc plated washer.

I had a similar problem, even with SS washers that were resized. So I looked around ye olde shoppe and saw a sheet of HDPE 1/4" thick. To the drill press I go with a couple of bits. Cut the inside hole first. Then use a hole saw to release the new "washer". Now on my MT I no longer have any...

    Air compressor aeration

I use Harbor Freights Air Brush Compressor. They are very clean air, small light. Works with .2 micron stone, and a .05 micron filter in line(from surgical supplies). Needle valve controls flow. Does a great job, around $50 or so.
