As long as the powder is still green, you will be just fine. If it is brown and smells like aged cheese, it is oxidized and should be discarded.

Why not in the shower?

You can always add the dry hops when there is still a small amount of yeast activity. The active yeast will scavenge any oxygen introduced.

12 point posts are for Cornelius keg gas inputs. If you have any posts that have the 11/16" hex (the smaller size) those are also for Cornelius. Just be sure to pay attention to the notches in the hex flats as mentioned above. Hopefully this helps you narrow it down a bit more.
