    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

You can add malted oats to that list too. My buddy and I did a comparison and didn't notice any difference in mouthfeel.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

My next NE style is going to have 10% Carapils, also 15% Flaked and 2% Honey Malt. I've been going as high as 30% with flaked and 5% Carapils, and while it is good, I still want more mouthfeel. A softer, rounder, thickness to it. I think 10% Carapils maybe more will help get that. Great thing...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

Julius is all American I bet. However, Green is not. Nate even said on Twitter, awhile back, that Green is 80% Galaxy. The debate is what other hop they use. I gave a shot at an 80% Galaxy and 20% Citra hop bill and loooooved it.

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

I have found there to be a good amount of bitterness added just from WP additions. Most NE style brews I make are clocking in around 4.7-5% rather than 6%+. But maybe give the all WP addition a try and skip bittering or cut the bittering in half or even do a FWH for a little more smoothness. I...

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

No spicy flavor for me. Are your fermentation temps good? Do you use a lot of Columbus late in the process? Columbus has a spicy, black pepper character to it. I've gotten away from using it late because of that. If anything I might throw it into a first round dry hop but at a small ratio...

    Wlp002

When I got home it was chugging away so I think we're good to go.

    Wlp002

I only do the shake method and did it for one minute prior to pitching and then one minute after. I know it's not ideal but I just haven't bought the equipment to oxygenate.

    Wlp002

Pitched yesterday morning and took awhile to see some signs of fermentation. Took about 18 hours or so. Not a massive krausen. I bought two fast pitches, that had a use by date for December '16, and made a starter with one and just pitched the other straight in. A little worried the yeast might...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I mash at 156* and use 5% Carapils with great results.

    Wlp002

I'm getting ready to use 002 for the first time too in a stout. I would think your schedule would be fine. I was thinking the same thing. I've heard it floccs really well so it wouldn't be able to clean up after itself. I also read giving the fermenter a little swirl might help to keep the...

help w/ New England IPA recipe, Calcium Choride amount?

Input those water numbers where needed in EZ Water, Bru'N or BrewersFriend to get an idea of what you need to do. I have poor efficiency too because I BIAB. But the beer still comes out delish!

help w/ New England IPA recipe, Calcium Choride amount?

Batch size? Six gallons I'm guessing? That'll put you at about a 7% beer. I really like the grains you're using. I would back down the honey malt though. To only about 2% and up the Carapils to 5%. That's what I do for my NE styles and find it to be the sweet spot for me. I'd recommend mashing...

    IPA finished 1.022...Brett???

What's the recipe? You may end up liking it. My recent brews have finished pretty high but they've been NE style pale ales (1.015-1.018 range). A high FG lends to mouthfeel as well.

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

When I first saw this recipe I was surprised to see no Amarillo in it, since a lot of people get orange from that hop. It's been awhile since I had Julius but everyone says how it smells and tastes like orange juice. If you remember the old cans and labels, it did have an orange on it. I've also...

    NE style juicy IPA concept

Grain bill looks good. After doing this recipe, try experimenting with higher flaked adjuncts. I'm in the 20-30% range and feel that is the sweet spot. Personally, Chinook is a little harsh to me. At least your using it in a lower ratio than Centennial and Mosaic so that's good. Try bumping...

Is bottle conditioning incompatible with NE IPAs?

I used to bottle before I got my kegging system. While expensive, it's so worth the money. I found all my hoppy beers struggled when bottling. They'd fade pretty quickly. It would help to know your whole process but here are some ideas before bottling and if you're bottling from a bottling...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I haven't waited that long to DH in a long time. On my most recent batch I wasn't able to DH when I wanted due to Hurricane Matthew evacuation. While I feel DH at the tail end of fermentation can help with the biotransformation of the yeast and hops I bet you'd still be ok to DH that late. Many...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

The biotransformation the yeast and hops have while the yeast are still fermenting can help add the juicy like aroma we're searching for in these beers. While adding it at the end of fermentation is good enough, Scott recommended trying it at the beginning of fermentation because there could...

    On Cloning Bissell Brothers Swish

It's my next in line beer to brew, hops wise not everything will be an exact clone, but won't be for awhile as I'm getting ready to fill my kegs with a different NE pale ale and then a sweet potato Porter! My recipe will include all the hops but Apollo because I couldn't get any, it'll be a...

    Creamy/pillow IPA mouthfeel?

I agree with all of this. I will add I use 20% or more for flaked, it really helps. I use even less sulfate, 50 or lower. I have also found mashing high helps with the mouthfeel and leaves some of the perceived sweetness that works so well with this beer. I mash at 156*. You can confirm Tree...
