have you tried fermenting and serving from the same keg without transferring?

This piqued my interest as I have a bottling bucket that I haven't used in years and extra BIAB bags. I'm wondering if after chilling in my boil kettle can I rack to the bottling bucket that has a BIAB bag in it, pitch the yeast, and then rack to a keg. How much do you fill your keg...

I just had to dump my first batch after nearly a year off because I am an idiot.

I did just that. Currently brewing another batch of the same recipe. I also picked up enough to brew two more times over the weekend (an American IPA and a Mexican Vienna Lager).

Blonde Ale Kona Big Wave Golden Ale clone

Three days in and it is down to within a point of its FG (1.008 vs 1.007) so I dry hopped and turned off the heater to bring it to room temp (~70 F). I'm going to let it sit until Sunday and then cold crash and then keg this time next week.

I just had to dump my first batch after nearly a year off because I am an idiot.

The gas line is transparent ... I just had to actually look at it and it would have been obvious. Every other time I would have depressed the ball lock fitting with my finger as a test prior to hooking it up and that would have revealed the issue, too. So many "woulda-shouldas" that would have...

I just had to dump my first batch after nearly a year off because I am an idiot.

I've been brewing for a few years and usually fit in about 25 five gallon batches a year. 2020 was an outlier and I only ended up doing 4 batches, the last of which was in the spring. I decided to try a Trappist Single as my return batch. Brew day went well; hit all my numbers. The batch seemed...

Blonde Ale Kona Big Wave Golden Ale clone

So much for that ... came downstairs to the thermometer reading 102 with a temp gun finding a few 103s! Airlock activity is still going strong but less than last night. Times like this make me wish I had a Tilt.

Blonde Ale Kona Big Wave Golden Ale clone

I had to borrow my wife's heating pad to get my chamber up to 95 F. I actually set my Inkbird to 98 F but it appears that is just beyond the reach of the two heating elements I have in there as it settles in around 96-97 F. I gotta be honest .... pitching at 95 F felt really weird!

Moving to Kegs, Should I worry about exploding Kegs?

You'd have to do a lot of things wrong on purpose to get into the realm of a corny keg "explosion" being possible (and I'm not sure it is possible); it's not something you'd stumble into. You could have a leak due to bad fittings / hoses. This could cause 5 gallons of beer to end up where it...

Newbie, how many kegs in a 7cu ft freezer?

With a 24x15 pit you would be able to fit either: Three 9" pin lock Three 8.5" ball lock Two 9.25" sixels and one pin or ball lock In each case, you can fit one more keg of any type on the hump if the collar were tall enough. Note that this is different than what I said above in that you...

German Pils Cat's **** "Bitburger" - Premium Pilsner

I brewed this for a Christmas party and it went fast. That being said I felt there was an off-flavor on the front end: a lemon/lime/citrus fruitiness. I fermented at 50 F and then had a week D-rest prior to cold crashing, kegging, and lagering for a month. From some searches it sounds like...

    DIY BIAB basket?

Would getting some high temp silicone tubing help? Slice it and make a grommet for your cut opening?

Newbie, how many kegs in a 7cu ft freezer?

If you are going with a collar then you certainly can fit 4 in the worst case just by making the collar tall enough: 3 in the pit and 1 on the hump. Depending on the precise dimensions of the pit you might be able to fit 4 ball locks in it and leave the hump open while using a smaller collar...

    Refractometer

I can only speak to the refractometer that I have since it is the only one I ever used... The underside of the flap that covers the sample end of the instrument is rough. I found that if I open the flap the whole way and put a few drops on it first to cover and "fill in" the roughness and then...

    Consistently getting incorrect preboil gravity

Here is the process I use: After mashing, I raise the bag, and squeeze. After squeeze, but before lighting the burner, I give the pot a good stir and use a cheap-o plastic pipette to take a sample from 2-3" below the surface. (I'd picked up a lifetime supply of the pipettes from Amazon for like...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

Don't dump without at least trying to rack out from underneath the StarSan layer. Worst case is you end up going through with your plan to dump. Best case is you end up with 80-85% of the volume of beer you were expecting.

I want to start BIAB but I a Noob and don't know what I'm doing!!

If you are using city water or water that as otherwise been chlorinated for sanitary reasons you will need to put a half a campden tablet in your mash water.

Using Vanilla Extract in Milkshake IPA

I'll tell you in a few weeks. I just put a few tsp of Costco's extract in a Chocolate Coconut Stout today and will be kegging in a week or so.
  19. S

    What is my efficiency?

If it was an extract recipe then your final volume was lower than the final volume that the recipe called for; your wort was a little more concentrated than the recipe and should have had some extra top off water. If it was an all-grain recipe then it could have been either your final volume...

HELP! 1 litre of Sanitiser solution in my beer!

It is safe to drink. If you want to get an idea of how it affects the flavor, grab a bottle of commercial beer that is similar to what you brewed. Assuming a 16 oz beer, split into 2 eight ounce glasses. Add 1 tbsp + 1 tsp of properly diluted star-san to one. You can now directly compare how it...
