Is this normal? (False bottom question)

It installed fine after I got the correct size barb for the bulkhead. Haven't brewed on it yet.

Is this normal? (False bottom question)

I believe the false bottom I got is different than the normal NB FB. It's the same price it, but seemed to be stronger than the original one that's been at NB for years. Note: I have been AG brewing with a bazooka screen for a year. Hoping this will fix my efficiency problems.

Is this normal? (False bottom question)

Yeah, on my way to pick-up a 5/8 barb with 1/2 OD threads.

Is this normal? (False bottom question)

The elevation difference between barbs, is this normal? I bought the false bottom from NB and wasn't expecting this kind of hight difference.

Big OG stout still fermenting in 2nd w/wlp001

Not huge. It was 1.080 og. I racked at 1.023. To be honest I haven't taken a gravity reading because I kept seeing a baby krausen and activity. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Big OG stout still fermenting in 2nd w/wlp001

I have a stout that started fermenting again when I racked to a secondary. Nothing new, right? Except it's still off gassing 4 weeks later. Afraid to bottle.. What do you guys think? Ohh and it's been sitting on the dry hops that long too.... Fml Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    You can call me MacGyver

Had no idea. Didn't believe you until I googled it! http://blog.bleacherreport.com/2012/08/23/for-all-intensive-porpoises-enough-malapropisms-to-circumvent-the-globe/ But I bet you guys have moved onto new threads and let this one "fall to the waste side" by now anyway!

    You can call me MacGyver

Jaybird… Shopping http://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com on the second tab as I type. Thanks for the info! I fund my beer making habit by teaching music lessons in the evenings. Everything is purchased in "lessons" and this looks to be a 4 lesson purchase!

    You can call me MacGyver

Do you have problems with the False Bottom collapsing? I think it might be time to upgrade!

    You can call me MacGyver

I've been brewing for almost a year now and have been brewing alone from the beginning. My little sister(25), after drinking many of my beers asked how it was done and if she could come over for a brew session. I was excited to have someone else show interest in the process. So we planned...

    Potential Dumb Grain Question

I guess a double crush policy is in order when purchasing grains.

    Potential Dumb Grain Question

I've recently stopped buying All-grain kits and started buying grains from the LHBS. First beer was Denny's Rye IPA, hit my numbers everything was fine and dandy. (must have been beginners luck) This latest brew was a Winter Warmer with British 2-row (pearl) as the base malt, marris-otter was...

    Broken hydrometer

Not sure what to think of the Mason Jar Beer. It smells sweet like cherries and tastes sour like medicine. It's not even comparable to the sample pulled out of the carboy which tastes amazing.

    What to do next?

It's drinkable but very tart. Is this typical?

    Broken hydrometer

I'm excited to see what I get... I hope it's usable.

    Broken hydrometer

Still waiting on the new hydrometer. And I have encountered a very cool problem. I think the beer sample picked up some wild yeast and has started fermenting.

    What to do next?

Mid-May I had some ale yeast laying around and decided to go get a gallon of unpasturized cider. I boiled some brown sugar down and combined the cider yeast and sugar. It fermented for about a month at 70 degrees. It's been sitting in my cellar now for almost 2 months. Should I.... 1. Add...

    Broken hydrometer

My hydrometer broke on me ten minutes after mashing in yesterday. It shattered when it slipped out of its container while in my brewing equipment tub. After much debate I decided to proceed and pull a sample, put it in a mason jar until I can get a new hydrometer. Any problems with this plan?
