What does fermented Malta Goya taste like?

My son, 10yrs old, wanted to try Malta Goya. He thought 'malted' meant beer and would be cool. I bought a bottle as a novelty, tasted like crap, really bad, to us at least. To each his own, a lot of folks must like it. It has been around forever.

Looking to trade Heady Topper for Zombie Dust or whatever in June

Thanks, the closest I am going to be is Waitsfield. I think/hope a store in the area will let me purchase a case a few days in advance with a credit card and I will pickup the evening we pass through.

Check out MrMalty.com. Amazing website when it comes to yeast, really good info.

    Racking

I do not secondary unless I am adding a fruit addition or something. You run the risk of infection and there is no reason for secondary on a beer like you are doing. (Let the flames begin!) Generally, what I do, is let the beer sit in the primary for at least 2wks then keg or bottle. I will let...

    Headytopper ?

Only sold in 16oz can 4 packs. I am planning a trip out there with the family and want to pickup a case. I called a couple of stores and it seems to go for about $14 per 4pk. Very limited distribution. Check the alchemist brewery website for a distribution map. Also goes very fast, the stores I...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

That is actually what I was thinking, decant a bit and taste that. If the yeast/beer had been infected you would taste that, correct?

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Was talking to a brewclub member and this subject came up. He asked this. If you harvested yeast and put in the fridge and couple of weeks later you pull one out to use, if it was spoiled, would you not smell it? What about tasting a bit of the beer on top of the yeast that you pour off? I'm not...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

I wash mason jars then fill with light solution of Oxy Clean and let sit for 1/2 hour then rinse and drop everything in a bucket of Starsan for a 1/2 hour and have never had an issue.

55 Gallon Bourbon Barrel Barleywine advice

Looks great! It's a process for sure. I brewed 24 gallons over 2 weekends for me and a buddies share and another guy brewed 35 gallons over 2 weekends for his and a buddies share. Something we did about 3 days before 'barrel fill day' was to have all the beer delivered to my garage, first week...

    will this work?

It will ferment out if you pull from the original fermenter that had yeast, no problem. Might not act exactly the same as the bigger batch once all is said and done. Also, you are adding another possibility of infection. If you hydrometer came in a small plastic storage tube try using that...

    Cheap compact wort pump

I also wondered about running a tapered die for a couple of turns.

Question for you single vessel, recirculating BIABers and efficiency.

I appreciate the input and have over 20 batches under my belt with BIAB. Do any of the previous responders have experience using a heating element and recirculating your mash with a pump during your mash period?

Question for you single vessel, recirculating BIABers and efficiency.

Thanks, Once I got my old standard BIAB rig dialed in, no pump or anything, I just wrapped the keg in a blanket once the mash temp was set, I was getting 73-75% efficiency. I get 78-80% with my mash tun setup, but if I can get close to that with a properly setup recirculating BIAB rig I would...

Question for you single vessel, recirculating BIABers and efficiency.

I BIABd for a year or so and love it. Just went to a 70qt Coleman mash tun. My kettle is a cut keg. Am considering moving to electric and want to consider all my options. I have read some great threads on electric, recirculating, BIAB setups. What kind of realistic efficiency are you guys...

    Cheap compact wort pump

Shoot, as much of the ridiculously cheap stuff I buy like this from Honk Kong, this is the first thing to not work and the pot if fine and will be saved. Here is the PWM I use on my stir plate. http://tinyurl.com/bcvottv

    Cheap compact wort pump

Took the dimmer to work and one our electricians opened it up. Determined the pot was good but the board was not. Not worth trying to get a refund. Just ordered a PWM like the one I use on my stir plate. My coworker said that is a much better solution anyway. THANKS
