    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

I have the same concern, so I added some extra weight in the bottom; two layers of 1/2" plywood. If it still feels like it might tip, I have the option, where I'm putting it, to anchor to the floor. When I got the shelf done, I pulled it all the way out and leaned on it pretty hard (mainly to...

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

Thanks. When i was designing this, I was struggling with how to access the lid of my SS conical to dry-hop, etc. Saw these slides at HD for $16, rated for 100 lbs. seemed like a good idea. I'll see how it works next week when I get it all together and test.

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

Hurricane Sandy kept me home for a couple days, so I got all but the last piece of the inner layer of R-Max installed, and got the glides and shelf made for my fermenter. Not pictured, but I also fashioned a couple of door latches. Hope to get this finished this weekend.

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

Got the doors temporarily hung. HD finally got the 1" R-Max board in stock, so I'll try to get the inside layer installed today.

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

Yep, that'll be a stretch, I know. Outside dimensions are 48" H x 42" L x 32" W; subtract 6" each way for inside dimensions (3" insulation) and add a 4.4 cu. ft. fridge. That's one reason I'm going overboard with extra insulation. Hopefully, I'll finish insulating this week and take it on a...

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

I got all the plywood on the outside yesterday and wired up my controller to test. I'll have an outlet mounted on the outside on the fridge end for cooling, and two outlets mounted inside; one for heat and one always on (for a fan, light, etc.).

    Another Fermentation Chamber Build

I've recognized that, where I currently ferment, I have very poor temperature control. The consensus seems to be that proper control of fermentation temp is one of the best things I can do to improve the quality of my beer. So, I decided to start this build. I have a 7.5 gallon Stout Tank SS...

    30$ 5 gallon MLT

Hope this works for you. I tried one of these bottling bucket spigots on my mash tun, and it leaked badly when I was vorlaufing and transferring to the BK. I ended up going with brass nipple/ball valve. Good luck.

    Sanitizer for stainless fermenter?

Recently bought a S/S conical fermenter, which I've yet found time to put to use. Can you all give me some advice on the best sanitizers to use with stainless? I've been using One-Step with my plastic fermenters, is this stuff okay for stainless? Is a rinse with boiling water sufficient? Thanks!

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Appreciate the feedback. I tested my cooler with this spigot today with 180 degree water for an hour with no issues. I'll go ahead and finish my manifold and give it a try.

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I tested this yesterday with 130 degree tap water and all was well. Will test today with some 175 degree water. And yes, Reno, I realize it's a bottling bucket spigot; name was a dead give away! :). Just seems too cheap and easy to not give it a try.

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Has anyone ever tried using one of these on a 5 or 10 gallon Rubbermaid to make a mash tun? http://www.midwestsupplies.com/italian-bottling-spigot.html They are a perfect fit for the existing spigot, and a 3/4" pipe fitting screws on the threads inside the cooler to attach a manifold. Anyone...

    Harvesting yeast

I recently purchased a 7.5 gallon SS conical fermenter, which I've not yet found time to use. When I do, I'd like to begin harvesting my yeast for re-use. Is there a good thread or article out there that someone can recommend on this topic? Thanks!

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

Hey Ace_Club, I looked around for the controller you used in your build, and it is listed as using a 220V power supply. So, are you using 220v power, or is there a 110v model out there that I've been unable to locate? Thanks!

    My Fermentation Chamber Build

This is a cool idea! You have me thinking about building one. A question - what type of controller are you using, and does it control both heat and cooling? Thanks!

    5 gal. Rubbermaid large enough?

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like 10 gallon is the way to go.

    5 gal. Rubbermaid large enough?

Want to make a mash tun from a round Rubbermaid water cooler. I make 5 gallon batches, nothing really high gravity. My question - is a 5 gallon cooler sufficient, or should I go with the 10 gallon cooler? Thanks!
