Will It Have A Negative Impact?

I’m more inclined to use grains. It’s cheaper and doesn’t force me to pay additional money along with shipping fees.

Will It Have A Negative Impact?

I’ve had Sinamar suggested, but I buy my needs from MoreBeer and they don’t offer it. My last attempt used 1/2 lb with half in the mash and the other half added during the sparge and it was along the lines of an ambery brown. Almost...

Will It Have A Negative Impact?

Looking for black coloration but with the taste of an amber. I’ve tried a couple of times various things and this next time I intend to try using the Midnight Wheat (1/2 lb) just in the sparge. After the first runnings I add 3 separate additions of sparge water, stir, and wait about 10 mins...

    Cream Ale Questions

Neither do I buy or enjoy, but I’d drink it being polite. I was just curious as to which flavor profile he preferred.

    Honey and honey malt

I make a honey wheat that I’ve tried all sorts of things with wanting the absolute most honey flavor I can get. In 5.25 gal batches I use 2 lbs of honey and I add it at flameout. I also use 1/2 lb of honey malt. These are close to max amounts.

    Cream Ale Questions

Well, now you have my curiosity piqued. What adjunct did they use (or not?)? Cream of Three Crops (Beirmuncher?) is along the lines I was thinking of working off of, but I’d be interested in both the beer you mention, as well as Yooper’s. I must say I really like Cascade, but with very low hop...

    Cream Ale Questions

Wow! I have never seen that. Everything I’ve read said 6-row was the only way to go if using lots of adjuncts. I’m wondering if it’s tannins that give it this flavor I get, which I take to be grainy. It’s why I’ve been contemplating using plain 2-row or pale ale malt (which is mostly what I...

    Cream Ale Questions

I’ve brewed a few of these and have used 6-row as my base grain and usually 2 lbs of flaked corn in 5.5 gal batches, until recently where the volume was a bit lower and 1 lb was used giving it a lower ratio. But what I noticed was a more pronounced corn flavor, which I thought peculiar. My...

    Session IPA Recipe Critique

As much as I love hoppy beers (it’s 95% of what I bring home from the store) I don’t brew them that often. I’ve yet to try making a session version. Anything anyone would change? Here’s the 5.5 gal recipe: 5.25 lbs pale ale 1.25 lbs white wheat 0.5 lb caramel 60 1 oz cane sugar 0.25 lb DME...

    Double Dry Hopping

So you both use a bit more hops for dry hopping (I typically buy 1/2 lb packages), but it sounds like you’d both split these I have.

    Double Dry Hopping

I’m curious at what point this doesn’t work well. For instance if I have a little more than 4 oz of hope for dry hopping a 5.25 gal batch would it serve me well to split it? How much is needed to make an impact vs keeping it all in one? And when splitting what are considered the better...

    Cranberry and Spruce Tip IPA?

Ended up making this (5.25 gals): 7 lbs pale ale malt 2.75 lbs white wheat 1.5 lbs carared 1 Oz Midnight Wheat 3 lbs cranberries made into purée and added at FO 1 Oz spruce tips @ 30 mins 1 Oz spruce tips @ FO .25 lb DME (starter) .125 Oz Columbus @ FWH 1 Oz Columbus/Simcoe @ 15 mins 1.5 Oz...

    Cranberry and Spruce Tip IPA?

SWMBO is an excellent cook. I told her this is her area to research, but figured I should get advice from people who have brewed with it. Together I figure it will turn out nicely, though likely need some improving. I’m curious why steeping prior to smashing and whirlpooling? This beer will...

    Cranberry and Spruce Tip IPA?

SWMBO decided she wanted me to brew her this beer. She has ordered 1/4 lb of spruce tips. Anyone familiar with using either of these ingredients?

Help Me Understand What I’m Dealing With

I vaguely used the MoreBeer kit ingredients when I began working on this recipe. They use 2 Oz of Cascade @5 mins and at 1 min. Knowing that hop aromas are one of the first to go I decided to use a healing amount at 20 so that it should still carry some flavor much later down the road, but...

Help Me Understand What I’m Dealing With

    Partial mash.
