    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

34/70 and Novalager were the other two yeasts I was thinking about. Which will be pleasant to drink with 3 weeks in fermenter and 3 weeks kegged? My big concern was the fermenter temp. I can switch out frozen water bottles for a week then it will free rise to upper 60s maybe 70, it all...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

We are doing a club big brew day the 3rd week of July. The local brewery gives us all at least 6 gal of wort to take home. This year it is going to be a marzen. They have to be ready to pour at club tent at a brewfest on September 9th. Brew it however you like. I am shooting for...

    Hail from SW Oregon!

First, welcome to the hobby (obsession), have fun with it. It is amazing the flavors that different yeast, hops and temp can create with the same grain bill

    So who's brewing this weekend?

It was a bottling day, bottled up 5 gal of Hefeweisen and 5 of Dunkelweizen. If they did not taste better plus easier to give out as bottles I would have kegged. Now that is a time saver.

About to order a bunch of hop plants, need some guidance

5 of my 6 plants are climbing the ropes, probably 24" tall while last one is maybe 4" tall, the others had already had the bull shoots cut by the time it decided to join the party. Strange winter maybe had an influence 🤔

    First time using harvested yeast

In the past I have brewed a beer by just pouring fresh wort into a fermenter with a yeast cake from the previous brew . Brewed up a hefeweizen Thursday last week and now yesterday, friday a dunkelweizen. Used a new pouch of imperial stefon for the hefe, harvested nice creamy yeast from the...

    Secondary Fermentation

When I do 5 gal batches I often will fill my 2.5 gal keg. The I then bottle the rest after attaching the wand to auto syphon hose. I use one domino dots sugar cube per bottle. It fits through bottle mouths and gets nice carbonation.

    Hydrometer test jar hack?

I just have a cheap plastic graduated cylinder, if it falls over no big deal, I also bought one of those shatterproof hydrometers so it no long breaks if I tap it. Glass is nice but like glass carboys it can be broken at the most inopportune time.

    American Porter Chinooklehead Porter

Well it turned out great, 5%abv and I have a hard time only drinking one. Swapping out the brown malt for special roast 1:1 was worked. Thanks for a great recipe, this one will definitely be brewed again. Was a nice Brown color unless in the evening sun.

What I did for beer today

Dang, I have one of those sous vide sticks in the pantry. Was trying to figure out how to pasteurize the bottles...😔 On the smart side of things I am multitasking today brewing a hefeweizen while also working on a PCB design.
