    Recipe suggestions for Minnesota brew

My brew club here in north central Minnesota is doing a club brew day. The local brewery is going to make up a batch of sweet wort and give it free to those in our club and also those that want to try their hand at home brewing. We may do a simple cream ale recipe so that folks can add...

    From Kit to Anvil

I have a immersion chiller from NB which has fittings like that and uses a stiffer plastic tubing and does not leak. Right now I added in a second hose clamp on each tube and it helps but still not perfect. I am thinking a trip to hardware store to buy longer stiffer tubing to clamp on and a...

Lettig hops grow at an angle

I have to grow mine at an angle on our fence. The nuggets are 14' and 12' and the Willamette is 10' so far and they are growing about 6" a day right now.

@Thazo79 just make sure your clamps are secure on the pump output side. I did not and a 'bit' may have squirted out.

    Indiana Anvil Foundry 10.5 w/ pump $350

I looked around for a flat cart with handle for my 10.5. I never thought of using a parts cart. Damn! If you have not done so already you should share/sticky this for electric brewing forum.

    The Home Made Pizza Thread

I used from an amber and it was the best rising pizza dough I ever made but had a different smell to it. Glad me not only one.

Oh man those look good, does anyone else use washed brewing yeast to make their pizza dough? Any kimchi pizzas out there?

Very slow batch sparge with home milling

@doug293cz correct, I am usually performing my full time design job while brewing. Stepping away from the desk for 30 seconds to stir the mash and clamp the recirculation tube between the walls and sit back down at the desk and back to work I can do while still being in a meeting. Lifting a...

Very slow batch sparge with home milling

Or when recirculating direct the wort between the malt tube and the anvil wall for a minute or two. Either that or lifting it once or twice during the mash makes a difference.

Very slow batch sparge with home milling

Anvil 10.5 and I generally put all but 1-1.5 gal in for mash and then use the remainder heated and do a slow pour over sparge to target volume. When I do use flaked grains I toss in a couple handfuls of rice hulls.

Number 2 on your list about the pump bogging down, was this recirculating during the mash? If so you don't want to restrict the water into the pump, you use the ss 'pinch' style restrictor on the silicone tube between the pump and the ss tube into the lid. About a foot from the stainless pipe...

Side arm management - an Idea + looking for suggestions

I have never worried about the side arms and I grow my hops at an angle. The only thing I do is when they start to get by the ground I will lift them and back to the twine. Don't want disease or my boy hitting them with the mower. Then maybe I am lazy.

    Hefeweizen brain fart

Well I could not wait any longer to see how adding the domino dots to the bottles and recapping them 8s working out. 1 week, placed one in the fridge for the day and just opened it. Oh yes we have carbonation now. Hefeweizen is not about sharp flavors and this drinks 'soft' and sort of pillowy...

    Munich Classic - Hefe

I use MC and pitch a half packet for 21L batch. Airlock is used first 24 hours and then when krausen forms I put in a blowoff tube that has just enough water to cover end to keep out bugs. I always underpitch and it comes out great.

Vitamin C - The Game Changer?

So is there a consensus on the amount for 20L? Is 4 grams a proper amount?

Boil time reduction : the science please

Yes the extract has had the crap boiled out of it. My point is that instead of boiling for 60 minutes to bitter that you can boil much less and just pump up the hop quantities and get a great beer.

Boil time reduction : the science please

If I make an extract pale ale I only boil 15 minutes and just double my hops. 5gal batch, 2 ounces at 15, 2 ounces at 10 and 2 ounces at flameout. A 3 gallon batch instead gets an ounce at those times.

What are your tips for keeping costs down

I am on a well and due to hardness and clear water iron (northern MN) I have a softener on it. So I either buy 8 gallons of spring water from a dollar store, $1 gal or go to grocery store and get RO for $0.39 per gallon and add a bit of minerals. When I do 3 gal batches on an induction plate I...

What are your tips for keeping costs down

My friends who drink bottled beer always have pry off bottles to give me. I do have some flip cap bottles for when I am kegging. I can fill 4-6 pints for friends and keg the rest.
