I don’t think it will work at all if it isn’t a forward sealing tap. Mine just arrived and it’s too small for my perlicks. I think they are the 500 series. So I have to buy that adapter when it’s back in stock.

Does it work with just a gas post and using the bottom spigot to transfer?

I've used buckets and Fermonsters and don't notice a difference. Fermentation vessel is rarely the cause of oxidation. It's whatever you do once it leaves the vessel that causes this.

Are you releasing pressure on the keg? Open the pressure relief valve or hook up a gas disconnect

So connect liquid to liquid and gas to gas to make a loop? How are you going to push the liquid then?

I use two on my stainless steel kettle to keep temp up.

You're not going to see anything happening, it isn't fermentation. You'll need to taste and/or test with a pH meter.

Sounds like your LHBS guy doesn't know how to ferment wort properly.
