    I'm a noob and I'm scared

For the first time, buy an extract kit that comes with decent instructions, such as Listermann's American Pale Ale kit Check with a local home brew supply. Don't be scared. It's only beer.

    A fast extract brew

My SMaSH APAs have tasted the best in the shortest amount of time.

Papazian is changing my mind about extract brewing

The user name comes from Dr. Evil, but I got it a little wrong. The actual line is "www dot shh dot com dot org". It was just a toss away user name to sign up on other forums, but it was easy to remember so I kept using it.

    Still Krausen after 1 week?

"Still krausen after all these years" - was that by Paul Simon?

Aluminum Miller Lite pint bottle reuse

I'd worry about con #3 the most. I saw on "How It's Made" that the inside of the cans are just sprayed with some kind of protective laquer. They would probably work ok, at least for a while. Go buy a single bottle/can somewhere and try it out, then give us a detailed review :)

    2nd batch - couple of ?s

    1. yes 2. yes - try to keep your fermentation bucket in the 62° range until the krausen subsides. Beer temps during vigorous fermentation can be 5°-10° above the ambient temp. 3. yes, OK in the 65° area but they may carbonate a little bit faster in the warmer area

Papazian is changing my mind about extract brewing

Clifton, I've been thinking about getting that 33# jug. How long have you kept a jug of that? I don't have room in my fridge and worry about it getting infected. BTW-I'm local and enjoy going to Listermann's.

Am i the only one with a US-56 off taste

Just keep adding hops until the off flavor is gone :) Seriously though, corny flavor is the trademark of DMS, isn't it? I use US-05 a lot and the only problem I have had with it is too vigorous initial fermentation raising the fermentation temperature and giving me some estery flavors. I now...

    Water sanitary?

Check the webpage for your local water department. They are required to publish water quality reports and any incidents of contamination. In my case, I've topped off straight from the tap with no problems.

    Mother Cartons

Plastic milk crates will hold 25 long necks quite nicely, but those stubby SN bottles are a fly in the ointment.

    Serious question

My 2 cents worth of experience... Don't take it personally. It's common for older kids to feel like they relate closer to the non-custodial parent because the non-custodial parent rarely has to punish them or be critical of their behavior.

    Tricking the plants?

The plant family Cannabiaceae includes two genera -- Cannabis, with one species (C. sativa, the source of hemp fibre and marijuana) and Humulus, with two, namely H. lupulus, the European hop, and H. japonicus, the Japanese hop. Both genera have male and female plants, with the female producing...

Do bittering hops mellow with bottle conditioning?

In September, I bottled an APA that had some lemon zest and corriander in the recipe. After 2 weeks I tried one and was really disappointed with it's harsh bitterness. I thought maybe I got some of the pith from the lemon rind in it. I noticed an improvement after 4 weeks. Now, after 6 weeks...

Did I just ruin my equipment?

Mixing copper and aluminum in an electrolytic liquid will cause galvanic corrosion. I know it's a concern for people who use liquid cooling on their computers. Plus aluminum dissolves in acid.

    Full Boil, No Chiller

Putting the pot in a bathtub of water has worked OK for me. I fill it with enough water that the pot floats just off the bottom but won't tip over.

Adding frozen raspberries; who much, when, how to sanitize

I used 2.25 lbs of frozen raspberries for a 3 gal batch of 20 IBU wheat beer. I thought that was too much, but my friends really liked it. I wanted a beer with a taste of raspberry, but ended up with a raspberry drink with a taste of beer. I didn't sanitize the raspberries. I was being a...

at what stage does krausen disipate

Krausen is good. It's a protective blanket over your beer. Hope that it stays there as long as possible.

KAPOW! - My First Bottle Bomb

I vote for bad/defective bottle. Incomplete mixing of the priming sugar is possible, but seems less likely the way he did it. The only other explanations I can think of would be some undissolved sugar or something in the bottle, which both seem unlikely. Also, what I do is hold my racking cane...
