How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

Hi there. I will describe what I do, which might not be the "right" way of doing, if such a thing exists. I use DME (Dried Malt Extract) to do my starters. I never used anything else - it is easy to take only the quantity I want, and is easy to store and manipulate. So, using the Pictoral...

    Stc-1000 vs DWH7016H

Ok finally, I ordered the STC1000. At least, the probe can be immersed, which makes a difference for me since it will be put in the blue stuff you find in ice packs, in a small tube. This way, I will have accurate liquid temperature, not ambiant temp. Sent the order, waiting for the...

    kegerator temp controller

Hi Astronomical. I believe the probe is fine to be immersed in a liquid. What I plan on doing is to take one of the ice pack with blue gel and put the probe in. It will not freeze, it will not (or should not) degrade and it will help not take the ambiant temperature like you said. Anybody...

Looking for a Rickards White clone

Hi. In the end, would someone have a decent Rickards White clone recipe? I would love to have something similar! Also, when you put coriander, do regular grocery store bought coriander seeds crushed is good enough? The 2 times I put coriander in my beer, I found it tends to change...

    Stc-1000 vs DWH7016H

Great! I was just looking for the difference between the STC 1000 and the WH7016C also. The WH7016C is $16.30 USD, no shipping fees, which makes it prety appealing! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170818176933&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123) Would one know it has a...

    kegerator temp controller

Actually, I found this on eBay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320832517422&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 It is indeed an STC 1000. It looks promissing since it even has a compressor delay. for just over $25 to my door, I think I will go with that one. ...but I also...

    kegerator temp controller

Hi all. I froze my beer again... Could someone suggest a good temp controller I could use with my generator? I don't want to spend too much, but if I have to... Thanks, Zolt

White beer - clear before fermentation...

Ah ok. Thanks for the info. So floculation means particles in suspension in the liquid?

White beer - clear before fermentation...

Hi all. I've done my first white beer - a Blanche de Chambly clone - and I have a question. The wort was clear when I put it in my fermenting bucket. It looks like it is now cloudy like a white beer should be, but I was wondering why it started clear. I was under the impression that the...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

JoshBrews. I am no expert, but from what I understand, the liquid yeast has a lot of active cells. With age, some of them die, and the date on the package is mostly a "Best before" date, meaning it should take a long time before they are all dead. Doing a starter will help grow back the...

Will This work? Electric Turkey Fryer from Wally World.

I'm not sure, but since my pots are wider than the stove top elements, I believe I have a faster heating this way. The elements are directly in contact with the wort. Also, the elements run off 120volts. Any way, my Blanche de Chamber clone is bubbling - can't wait to try it out :)

Will This work? Electric Turkey Fryer from Wally World.

I am testing my electric system for the first time today. I am pretty happy with the time taken from the wort out of the mash tun to the time it started to boil. If you read previous posts, I got my hands on 2 electric turkey fryer for pretty cheap. They were on sale and I got both for 50$! I...

How to make a yeast starter - Pictorial

The Yeast *should* still be good enough. Making a starter is probably a must, allowing you to build up the number of cells, and activating these dormant beasties, but as long as you see your starter moving (thickening of the bottom layer of white stuff and/or foaming of the starter), you should...

    PH tester

Thank you guys for the information. I just ordered that one this afternoon.

    PH tester

Ok guys. Thanks for your opinions. I guess I'll save for a more expensive one. I did not know you had to leave the probe wet. This was a surprise to me. From what I understand, it is worth it to spend a bit more on something better quality. Thanks again - you guys probably saved me 20 - 30...

    PH tester

Hi all. Sorry if this has already been asked, but I could not find exact answer to my questions. I am considering buying a ph tester to test the water when brewing, and also to check my Star San ph level - I read, somewhere that if Star San ph goes above 3.5, it's not god anymore. So, here...

Will This work? Electric Turkey Fryer from Wally World.

Great project! I have question about mashing. Is there any problem leaving the grain in the vessel while the heat is on? I also thought about using it instead of my mash tun, but was afraid of altering the grain by doing so. Let me know how your little electric project turns out - i'm quite...

    Quebecois Style Belgian Ale

Hi there. Sorry I never replied - I wasn't beeing notified of new messages... I never thanked you about your help, so consider it done! I found out in the end that Moût International carries WhiteLabs yeast. I tried it a couple times, and it is a great type of yeast. If you have a chance to...

Will This work? Electric Turkey Fryer from Wally World.

(sending from my phone, so I hope it works properly) So, I wasn't that happy with the time taken to heat the water - check my post a bit higher in this thread. Having 2 of these electric turkey fryers for quite cheap, I decided to combined both. I took the heating element assembly from one...
