Star san - good for how long?

I never had any luck saving it. mine would always get a bunch of minerals in it. I think it may depend on your water. I know others have saved it successfully. I just ended up buying the quart size. much cheaper if you buy a larger bottle.

    Thank you

I second what Logger1 said. So much more info on HBT than you could get out of any book.

Best single addition to your brew day procedure

Switching from extract to BIAB. I brew with a friend and the hour long mash is great time to have a cigar, some brews and shoot the $hit. Plus I jsut like the process more.

First Brew went badly, need some help troubleshooting.

This apparently is not a joke. Looked at Brooklyn Brew shop website, which was very hard to figure out, but couldn’t find the Edelweiss kit or recipe. Did find their book on Google books, but the edelweiss recipe was not part of the free preview. Found a blog from someone who did this one...

No Sprout or Shoots. Time to replant?

Weisnennt...Did you get them at Tabletop Brewing by any chance. I got those same three varieties (free at their hops growing class). I planted about a month ago, I think it was. Planted directly outside in the garden. All are about 3-4 inches tall now. Probabaly best if you don't dig them up...

    Hello and Prost! from Ohio

Welcome Matt. I'm in Cincinnati, so not too familar with the Columbus brewing supply stores. The only one I've been to in Columbus is here http://www.winemakersshop.com/ Kind of small. Might be OK for extract supplies, but not sure if they have a lot in the all grain area. Not sure what you...

Attention Ohio growers - is it rhizome planting time? :)

No, it was Table Top Brewing on west side ( Harrison Ave). The owner is a great guy. There are some pictures of his hops growing set up here. He even grows some inthee window of the store. http://www.tabletopbrewing.com/blogs/news

    Yeast Starter from Production Beer?

Here's a whole thread on the subject and list of beers you can harvest yeast from. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/commercial-beer-yeast-harvest-list-262713/

Attention Ohio growers - is it rhizome planting time? :)

My LHBS gave a class on hops growing and gave out free samples of rhizomes. The owner grows a lot of hops. Got three different types. Planted about a month ago and they have all sprouted and are couple inches tall. The warm spring has been kind. I'm stoked to be growing my own. Don't expect...

    Free Cycle

Got to agree with that. Took a while to figure it out, but once you do it's easy. Been a member for a couple of years though and have gotten and gotten rid of a few things. Nice thing about it is it's very localized and seems a lot less prone to all the scammers and BS on Craigslist.

    Doritos Flavored Beer

Agree! the beefy crunch burrito was very good and only a buck. Seems like they're alwaysn changing their menu around.

    Doritos Flavored Beer

Sounds gross to me but to each his/her own. That's what makes the hobby fun. Maybe start with a small batch just in case it doesn't turn out like you thought. The new tacos from taco bell with the Dorito shell are good though!

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

CastleBlack, Mine from wal mart had kind of an oily/petrol smell. Guessing something it is treated with to prevent rusting maybe. Washing with dish soap and warm water seemed to get rid of the smell. I did crank it some with nothing in it and did notice some silver flaking coming off, I...

    Attn. Yeast Harvesters

I'm no expert here, but believe you are correct. The trub will settle first and yeast should be on the top. Or you could wash the yeast to be sure you are getting clean yeast with little other stuff. Just take a gallon of boiled and cooled water, add to your fermentor and swirl it all around...

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Well I squeezed my first two BIAB bags. Haven't tried them yet, but if they are good I will continue to unleash hell on said bag!!

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Thanks Castle. Definately two schools of thought on squeezing or not. Would be interesting to do two identical batches, one squeezing and one not to see differences in efficiency and taste. So many different things I want to brew though, I don't know if I'd be doing 2 of the same recipe for a...

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

Stan and CastleBlack. I do sparge in my made up kinda way. After mash, I put the bag on a grate over the kettle and let it drain. Then squeeze and press hard. Then I kind of fluff the grains back up and laddle hot water through them until I'm near boil volume, then squeeze one more time. First...

Corona Mill or Pasta Maker Mill

I've only done two all grain (BIAB) batches. My efficiency went from 65% to 70% with the coroana ground batch. Hoping to bump it up even more.

    Wort not wanting to boil

The main reason I've heard for leaving the lid off during the boil is to allow the DMS to escape so as not to cause off flavors. Again, I don't think this is much of an issue with extract since it has been boiled already in the manufacturing process. Hadn't heard about hop resins. Will have...
