60# pails of Briess Liquid Malt Extract

I'm not in the area and doing BIAB now, but at $1.50 a pound for LME, that is a great price. Someone should snap those up!

    3 brews in 3 days!!!!

Wow, you really were eager to get back into it. At that rate, your pipeline will be built up quickly! Sounds like a great weekend. And thanks for your service to our country.

    New to the brew Cincy!

Welcome Bravo! I'm in Monfort Heights, but used to live in Groesbeck. The 2 closest LHBS shops for you would be Listermanns near Xavier or Tabletop Brewing on Harrison Ave in Cheviot. Tabletop would be closer and the owner Tom is super nice and very patient with answering questions. Jungle...

    Doritos Flavored Beer

Don't know why I happened to remember this thread, but wondering if OP ever tried this. Bikingman82, you still out there?

I added heavy cream to my wort!

Subscribing to see how this turns out. People make beer floats, so maybe you're not too far out there. I made one with a barkeywine. Not bad, but I still prefer root beer. Here is a link to a beer float thread. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f56/beer-floats-75959/

Lid blown off with a blow off tube possible?

Are there bubbles coming out of the blow off tube? If not, sounds like it is clogged. If it is clogged, you need to relieve pressure, and unclog it. be careful and if it blows, pics are always fun.

    Biab questions

Are you doing any kind of sparge? I usually mash with about 4 gallons of water for an average grain bill. Then put bag on grill grate over pot and squeeze. Then I pour/ladel pour hot water over grains, letting it drain into pot. Squeeze again and repeat until I have about 6.5 gallons and then...

    Biab questions

what is your volume before starting to boil? for a 5 gallon batch, you would normally start with around 6 to 6.5 gallons to allow for boil off. Boil off rates will vary depending on your setup.

    Cheapest bulk LME?

Duck..are you going to be using it rather quickly. If not, you might think about DME as it will store longer and you use a little less. Farmhouse breing has 50 pounds for $125, but then you have to add shipping....maybe $25 more.

    Oats in an OG recipie

Good info to know. I've only used flaked oats once and they were form LHBS. I figured they were same as quaker oats. Guess not. So the mash process doesn't cook them? Is it a temperature thing, like they need to be boiled?

How important is water for good beer? on a scale....

I would agree with this unlesss you shooting for something with a specific water profile. One easy thing you can do if using tap water Is to let your water sit for a day or two before using. This will at least let the chlorine dissapate, although I don't think chloramine will. Probably better...

    first brew questions

I don't use carboys. I ferment in a 7.9 gallon bucket, and even at that, had a 5 gallon batch come out the top once. One thouhgt is to just wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the carboy opening. That way no pressure build up and if krausen exceeds headspace it will just flow out the top...

    first brew questions

First, let it soak in in hot water for a half hour or so, that will thin it. Then after you've poured out all you can, put some hot water in the jug and shake it real good to thin it aeven more and get out all you can.

    No krausen in starter, help!

Sounds like it is acitve and yeast are multiplying. I don't know that you will neccessarily get a krausen forming with all starters. I've only done a few, but I'm sure others with more experience will chime in.

Either one, since it sounds like it's going to be short term. For very long storage fridge would probably better.

    Working in a brewery...

Boomer....I've never worked in a brewery, so take this with a grain of salt. If you are strictly thinking of doing this to gain knowledge about homebrewing, I'm thinking your time might be better spent on sites like this and others, dedicated to homebrewing. It does sound like it might be fun...
