    Buying too much at once?

I've never used the Mr. Beer, but since the ingredients are canned, I would think you'd be OK buying several at once. Or....If you want to brew more frequently, you're not limited to your Mr Beer fermentor. I've gotten a bunch of 5 gallon buckets free at the bakery depatments in grocery stores...

    Cleanin' Dem Bottles!

Never had any residue issues with oxyclean. I have a little cooler which holds about 13 bottles. I'll put a few inches of hot water in and disolve a scoop of oxy in it. Then fill bottles with hot water, so they don't float and fill cooler with bottles. Then fill cooler with hot water to top of...

Bought my first big sack today!

I too have sack envy. Do these great prices everyone is throwing around include shipping or do you have local sack connections?

    Cleanin' Dem Bottles!

Oxi-clean and hot water solution works very too. Labels fall right off after a few hours

    This place is huuuuuge....

Welcome Corey! Brewing for a living you should have a lot of valuable input to the forums. That's cool. Where do you work?

I Wish Someone told me before I started homebrewing...

^ PLUS 1. And you don't even need a lid and airlock on the bucket. A piece of sanitized clear vinyl on top, held on with a rubberband is fine, and you get to watch your krausen without taking a lid off.

What do you use for a brewing log?

Excel spreadsheet. Simple and customizeable. Add columns for whatever data you want to capture. Probably better, fancier tools available, but it works for me.

    New Oklahoma Brewer

Welcome Dan. I'm sure any questions you have can be answered here. Search feature works really well on theis site too (once I found it kind of hidden in the upper right corner ...DUH). Much better than some forums I use. Also when you search, similar threads will also be displayed at bottom of...

    Storing Grain

Since I'm kind of cheap...er, I mean frugal, I stop by bakeries or stores with bakeries like wal mart, Sams, Krogers etc and ask for the empty 5 gallon frosting buckets. The lids have a rubber gasket and fit on tight. It's hit or miss, depending on who happens to be working, but some will...

    Recommendations for 1st All Grain

I've ordered some extract with steeping garin kits from NB. Most were ok on the crush, but one had a whole bunch of whole grains. Hardly looked crushed at all. I ended up using a beer bottle on a cookie sheet to crush them finer. Haven't ordered an all grain kit from them yet.

Dry Yeast: 1 Packet or 2 ? (Brewing Monday)

Either would work. I'd agree with nuckingfuts and go with one and save the other for another brew. Are the packs 11 grams? if so, one should work. If they are 7 grams, I'd go with 2. Do you wash/save yeast? if so you could pitch both and wash after fermentation and have enough to brew several...

    Alternative Brewing

Afterbrewer....Thanks for your ideas, be they that different or not. I think the original idea of the thread is a good one. I'm still pretty new to this and always looking for different ideas and ways of doing things and would encourage other people to post their "out of the box" ideas as well...

    I boiled the yeast :(

Personally, I would go with option B. If you boiled yeast, think they are all dead. Could be some wild yeast starting a bit of fermentation. Do it asap, to get your "good yeasts" up and running.

took yer advice and got apple juice beer!

My guess would be coincidence or something other than leaving in primary longer. I'm no expert and have only done about 8 batches to date, but all have been on primary 3 to 4 weeks and all have been good.

    New Guy from Columbus, Ohio

Greetings from southwest Ohio. I know you have at least one shop in the area. The Winemaker's Shop Kind of small, but you may be able to get some basics there.

BAIB for the first time! Great success

Thanks DJ...great idea on saving some ice. I always fill and freeze some tupperware containers for chilling ice as well, but is sure melts quick. Using jsut cold water first sounds like a plan. Mandrew...any worries about Carbon Monoxide brewing in garage? Do you leave the door partially...

BAIB for the first time! Great success

Mandrew...Thanks for sharing. Love hearing first time BIAB sucess stories, as I plan on switching from extract to BIAB very soon. Got some paint strainer bags yesterday. Have all I need other than the actaul ingredients. Did you leave your kettle outside during mash? I was thinking that in...
