    Twist off bottles?

+1 I used mostly twist-offs for my batch, and it seemed that most weren't on tight enough (I also use a wing-capper), and at least one so far wasn't carbed at all (no 'psst') For my next batch, I should be all set with enough Grolsch bottles, and if I do happen to be short, I have a few...

    Arm into the bottling bucket

Would this work, in a similar situation? Take a garbage bag big enough to come to your armpit, stick your arm in it, spritz it with sanitizer (I'm thinking StarSan), and reach in?

What are you DRINKING tonight!? :)

I'm having a couple of my Cooper's English Bitter, which is my only brew so far. It's been bottled for just over a month, and I think it may not have mixed well enough during priming, because the bottle I had a couple days ago was nicely carbed, and the bottle I'm having now is quite a bit...

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

Well, I did an early taste test this evening, and, although it's still undercarbed (obviously), it's tasting quite good! I think I'll qualify this a success!! It's quite a bit clearer than I was expecting for an 8-day-bottled beer. I hold it up to my screen, and I can make out text through the...

Festa Brew Kit - still active after ~2 weeks

Do you have a turkey baster? If so, make sure it is CLEAN and SANITIZED, and it can double as a wine/beer thief in a pinch.

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

Well, I finally got around to bottling this batch. It had been fermenting from September 10th, until October 8th. I took a gravity reading of 1.010. the sample tasted almost like beer! :D Since I'm not 100% sure about my OG reading, since it might not have been mixed enough at the time, I'm not...

    Predictions thread 2010

I was just checking out the How Many Gallons 2010 thread, where I'm sure we'll break 25,000 today (only 58 gallons away, as of this post). Just in a general comparison to last year, where you guys broke 25,000 on November 29th... and ended the year with 30,862, what are your estimates on where...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2010?

I'm deleting this post, as it may lead to confusion in this thread, and I'll start a predictions thread.

Brewing first beer tonight - a few questions

If you use the carboy, make sure it doesn't get sunlight (and just to be safe, I'd try and avoid other types of light too) Wrap it in a blanket, or something like that.

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

About 18 hours in, I just checked my brew, and I'm starting to get a bit of foaming on top, from the yeast.Looks like my yeast was good, although I'd bought a backup packet just in case. As an aside, I was checking Kijiji.ca, and found an ad for a guy who has 12 dozen Grolsh bottles, in...

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

Well, it's done, and in the fermenter. I ended up with 23 liters, and an OG of 1.042. I don't remember the exact pitching temp, but it was 70-75. It's now sitting in the spare bedroom, which I've determined can hold a temp of about 65, if I keep the heat vent closed in there. I almost regret...

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

Well, I'm doing a 15 minute boil right now... turned out I couldn't do it in the afternoon, due to real life interfering. Good Lord, I'd forgotten just how GOOOD wort smells! I ended up doing a 3 1/2 gallon (approx.) boil, and used a full 2.2lbs of light DME. My extracts brought the level to...

Going to be brewing my #1 this afternoon!

Hi, all! Well, I'm finally getting started on my first batch. For my birthday, a couple weeks ago, SWMBO bought me a (very basic) equipment kit. Yesterday, I picked up a Coopers English Bitter, 1kg (2.2 lbs) of DME, and an extra packet of Coopers yeast. Today, I have to go pick up some water...
