10gal or 15gal pot for 2.5 and 5 gallon batches

10 gallon kettle for a 5 gallon batch works good for me. You can do bigger if you top off after the mash.

how do you strain the bag?

    Same as this

    Wheat beers

I just kegged this one two weeks ago. It’s Brad Smiths Wit Beer from BeerSmith, slightly modified. It’s a keeper.

    New to BIAB

73% is a respectable number. As you already know from your 3 vessel experience, consistence is the key not a high number. Before I bought my own mill I was getting 70 to 74% ME doing double crush at the LHBS. I was content with that because it was consistent. What I wasn't content with was the...

    Help...is my beer ok?

I’ve only made two batches this way. So far it’s working good. The stretch wrap leaks enough to let co2 escape without expanding it. Stretch wrap doesn’t stick to the bucket very well. That’s why I made the elestic band you may have noticed around the rim. I only sanitize the probe, I figure...

No gushers and really good pours. But a busted bottle

I keg now, but when I bottled I never had that happen and I reused bottles many times over. I still bottle from the keg occasionally. I inspect each bottle for cracks or nicks first. I’ve never heard of there being a limit on reusing them. Did you batch prime time or bottle prime? Could you...

My First BIAB - Didn't Think This Through

I used to do 5 gallons BIAB up to 14 lbs of grains in a 7.5 gallon kettle. Just mash with as much water as you dare then sparge the grains with water to bring it up to a safe boil level, 6.5 gallons or so. After the boil, top off again if needed to reach your post boil volume before transferring...

    bracket to hang CO2 tank

A fire extinguisher bracket should work for that.

    Pitching?

I use a counterflow chiller and in the summer I can only get my wort down to about 80 degrees while I’m transferring so it wouldn’t work for me.

Thanks, I’ll keep stirring then. Good advice on the temp control.

    Help...is my beer ok?

I gave up on the lid and airlock and use stretch wrap now. The airlock leaks any way and I like to see what’s going on. That’s a DOT thermometer from Thermo Works with a 12 inch probe.

Good call an skipping the pump, after all, the reason you are doing BIAB to make it simple. If you find that you need to add heat because you under shot your temp, stir continuously and use low heat. As soon as the temp starts to rise cut the burner. It seems like I always over shoot when I do...

    Bubbling in liquid line!

If the liquid tube o ring is leaking it could cause co2 to leak into the beer line.

    Hard Root Beer sweetener?

I make hard ginger ale and have the same issue of sweetening it. When I bottled I used wine yeast and then refrigerated the entire batch once it reached desired carbonation. I never had any bottle bombs. I don’t know if the wine yeast had anything to do with that or not. Now I keg so after...

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

I’m guessing here but, Mash in a Bag.

    Boil or steep

Where did you get your grains? If there is a Homebrew Supply store near you they could hook you up with whatever you need. You just skipped a crucial step in All Grain brewing, mashing. You could do the same recipe again with grain, but this time mash the grains. Google BIAB (Brew in a Bag)...

    Boil or steep

I am assuming then that you didn't mash but went straight to boiling the grains. The recipe in the screen shot you posted doesn't show any values for estimated OG or FG. It does say its a 5 gallon batch and calls for 11 lbs 10 oz of grains. That should yield an OG of approximately 1.060 and a FG...

    Boil or steep

Did you have the grains crushed? Did you mash the grains before you boiled them or did you just boil the grains? Do you have a Hydrometer?

Beginning brewers - You can start with all grain

When I Build my own recipe in BeerSmith I have three options to choose from: Extract, Partial Mash, or All Grain. I choose All Grain. When I research recipes for making a certain style of beer I search the All Grain recipes. I consider BIAB to be just one of several different ways of mashing an...

    PVC Pipe Fermenter

I think that the white cpvc would be fine. It is for potable water, hot or cold. I believe its practically the same material as my plastic bucket. If a 5' piece holds 6.5 gallons it the same as my bucket. My bucket costs less and stands on its own. Temperature control would be the issue for...
