    Balancing fitness with beer drinking?

As many other people have mentioned the key to maintaining a healthy weight, or losing weight is diet and finding some sort of activity that can you can stick with. Even at 23 it is very difficult for me to lose weight. I hike, ski, run, lift, walk whenever I can, and bike but if I'm not eating...

Dip tube needed with stainless steel braid?

Thanks. I guess the little bit of sugars left in the dead space is pretty negligible after 2 batch sparges?

Dip tube needed with stainless steel braid?

I'm going to be building a 3gal mash tun this weekend to start doing some big partial mashes in my apartment and I was wondering if a dip tube was necessary. None of the threads I've seen have one in the design... Will the braid pull the wort off of the bottom without a tube?

Wait until I've tasted my first batch before starting another?

Brew as much as you can! Even with 3 fermenters going I'm still having a hard time keeping my pipeline filled. 48 beers seems like a lot, but once you break that first one the floodgates open. I tried my first batch after 6 days in the bottle, within 2 weeks it was half gone, and by 3 weeks I...

    DFH 60 min. clone

Here you go: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/dogfish-head-60-minute-clone-ag-extract-25709/ I'll be making a PM version of this myself this weekend. I've read through a good chunk of the thread, and many people that have made it like their version better than DFH's.

What has happened to the American people?

Hey, let's leave fast food out of this. I have the opposite problem with my beer. All my friends love it and I'm too generous to horde it for myself.

    I Love This Site

I'll +1 this topic as well. Every single question I've had I've either been able to find in the search, or have answered almost immediately by the people here. It's crazy how much I've learned here in only 3 months.

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

Nope. Check out Yuri's post and my response on the last page.

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

    Whoops. You've assumed correctly.

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

Great advice! I just looked up the details on the LME I use for most of my brews, and the OG range is higher than the default values in beersmith. I changed the OG to the average, and the estimated OG went up to 1.052. I got 1.053 on that particular brew.

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

My gravities were .007, .013, .009, and .008 higher on the 4 brews I have logged. All recipes were topped off to either 5gal or 5.5gal depending on the recipe. I was pretty hammered by the time I took my hydro reading on the .0013 brew... So that could explain why that one is so much higher...

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

Well, all my recipes have been extract... So it would be up to the LHBS or brewmaster's warehouse to measure it out right. My brews from both have been higher than beersmiths estimates. Also, my first two brews used LHBS recipes, and I hit the gravities dead on... The same recipes show lower...

Can I trust Beersmiths OG estimate?

Looking back at my logs, every single brew I've done has been higher than the estimated OG in beersmith... Is this normal? I'm pretty confident that I'm mixing well and taking accurate readings with my hydrometer so I'm not sure whats up. I want to start formulating PM recipes in beersmith...

Blow over and still stuck at 1.020

My first couple brews finished at 1.020. I added some fermentation control, and try to keep the temp between 66 and 68. I aerate more than I think I need to (WAY more than my first batches) and started using Nottingham exclusively. Since I made these changes I have been getting much better...

    Danstar Nottingham - holy crap!

I've been very happy with nottingham. I've used it in all but 2 of my batches (which both ended at 1.020) and have pulled great numbers. All the batches have started within 12 hours, with huge blowoffs and quick fermentations. I started a batch of Ed's Pale that went from 1.059 to 1.010 in 3 days.

Porter is stuck, what else can I try?

Well, it appears that I have been Revy'd. When I took a peak into the closet to check out my new apfelwein the porter was bubbling again at a couple times a minute. I guess the seal broke sometime after I went to bed last night, and the co2 was leaking around the lid instead of out the...

Porter is stuck, what else can I try?

That's exactly what I did. I pitched it onto a yeast cake yesterday that attenuated 79%, and it only dropped .0002. I guess I might be jumping the gun a bit on this one, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it will still be 1.028 when I check again tomorrow.

Porter is stuck, what else can I try?

Brewed Ed's Porter on 11/14/09 O.G.=1.067... It started with a massive blowoff, and continued fermenting at 68 deg for almost 2 weeks. To my surprise when I checked the SG 13 days later it was only down to 1.030. I warmed it up to 71, roused the yeast (several times) and let it sit for a...
