    Bohemian Pilsner starter options

Interesting. My yeast is White Labs wlp 800 Pilsner yeast. The yeast has been in my fridge. The packaging date was November 30th 2015, but has a best before date of May 2016. So you are saying a fresher yeast would require a smaller starter, Victory Ale? 5 liters is a big step down from 18 in...

    Bohemian Pilsner starter options

Hi. I am currently making a starter for a 10 gallon batch of Jamil's recipe for Bohemian Lager. I currently have 5 liters of starter in my flask, on a stir plate. The starter was stepped up from 2 to 5 liters today and is bubbling away nicely. The only problem is the recipe calls for a 9 liter...

    Cloudy beer after kegging

Hi. I know this thread is a little old but I just brewed a 10 gallon batch of Styrian Stunner bitter from a recipe I found online, which is basically Marris Otter matched with all Styrian Golding hop additions. Anyway, It's one of the few beers I've brewed that did not clear after the addition...

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

I have to keep better notes, but I believe it got down to 1.006. Maybe I'm just used to the higher bitterness of the Pils. I drink a lot of Pilsner Urquell and have a Czech Pils fermenting as we speak. It's kind of a hybrid between Jamil's recipe for Bohemian Pils, and advice from Tiber on this...

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

Oh yeah here's a pic. Is the color too dark?

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

Just finished this and after 2 weeks of lagering, I transferred to keg under 12 psi, adding gelatin. It's been sitting in the keg for about a week under pressure, and is brilliantly clear. The only thing is, I haven't had a helles before, and it seems a bit too much on the sweet/malty side. Is...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

Hi. Just wondering how Styrian Goldings would work in this as a replacement for the Tettnanger? I have some that I want to use up. Also, If substituting Honey malt for the Aromatic, as discussed earlier in the thread, should I use the same amount as the Aromatic? More? Less?

    Empty propane tanks for brewing?

Thanks for the replies. Probably not worth the effort.

    Empty propane tanks for brewing?

Just wondering if anyone has tried this. As far as I know, they are stainless steel. Dealing with a lid might prove difficult. I'm having a hard time sourcing used/new kegs in eastern Canada with a decent shipping rate. Opinions?

    Corny can't hold a 5 gal brew!?

Please don't throw away beer. Avoid at all costs! Anyway, What about getting a smaller corney keg(3 gallon?) Less space to fill, purge. I personally enjoy having a few extra bottles around. When a keg kicks I get depressed for a moment, but then realize I have a couple bottles to get me...

German Pils Tiber's Premium Pils (1st Place German style Pilsner)

The color is a fair bit lighter than the pic.

German Pils Tiber's Premium Pils (1st Place German style Pilsner)

Here's an update. Just tapped my second keg out of a 10 gallon batch of this, which had a few weeks longer than the first keg to lager. The first keg at 3-4 weeks lagering was very nice and crisp. This one even more so. Even considering the old cheesy hops(Doh! Never again!)) I used...

American IPA Bee Cave Brewery IPA

Gonna try this soon. The recipes I've tried from this brewer have been really good. Nice balance of traditional styles and easy to brew methods. Awesome label/glass by the way.

How clear does beer have to be?

If you are going without fining agents( I personally use gelatin in all my kegs + cold conditioning), get the beer as close to freezing as possible, and wait. Cold temps+time=clear beer. Not necessary to drink clear beer though. As others have said, just make sure it is done fermenting before...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Tried this today with a squeeze of lime. Fantastically refreshing.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I brewed this about a month ago. 10 gallon batch, followed the recipe to the letter, except for using clarity ferm (first time). Kegged/carbonated about 2 weeks ago. Really cleaned up nicely now. Great light tasting, extremely moreish beer. Will brew again.

Old Tettnanger hops and Tiber's Pils

Okay. So I just sampled this today, and it seems the gelatin I added a few days ago, has removed about 75% of this off vegetal/earthy flavor. The beer has also cleared very nicely. So if you happen to use old cheesy hops like I stupidly did, and get this type of problem, I guess, try some...

Old Tettnanger hops and Tiber's Pils

Thanks for the replies. If anything, I have learned from this. No more old hops. The beer has settled and cleared nicely already. I'm not sure if It's because I've had a few pints of this, but the taste of earth/vegetal matter seems to have faded. I'll update with a little tester tomorrow.
