I did something similar with an old kit. I replaced the specialty grains and yeast of a 2 year old kit. To this day my father thinks it was the best one I brewed. I have to admit it was pretty dam good. I kept the malt, hops and oak chips it came with.

I think drinking isn't the issue. I think she feels drinking comes first so she feels 2nd rate. Spend some more quality time with her and see what happens. You might not need to stand your ground. Looks like corrosion on the balls is minimal. Looks to me more of a chemical attach as to "rusting". When carbon steel blues its a thin layer of corrosion that ends up protecting it from further corrosion. I think your OK and lucky. 304/304L or 316/316L is best for food grade needs.

Terrible. I always offer a sip before giving a full glass or bottle unless I know its someone who is a beer person. Hombebrews are few and far between that I will try and go no way I can drink that.

One tap mostly polished. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Picked them up yesterday for $80. ordered some replacement parts for $36 and they should be working taps soon. A little cleaning and polish will do them some good. Drip tray is solid brass too. Not dirty like it may look in the picture.
