Not your usual fermentation speed question

Wow and those were accurate readings?! That is very interesting that it went that fast. I would wait at least a little while to let the yeast clear up a bit but I am guessing that you can get a quick turn around with this beer.

    Counter Pressure Bottle Filler

Oh just a tube would work... thats actually a really good idea. How long of a piece do you use? Just long enough to get to the bottom of the bottle?

    Counter Pressure Bottle Filler

I am also interested in this. I don't want to buy an entire Blichmann setup so I may do the ghetto one I found that uses a siphon dip tube and picnic tap.

    Blichmann beer gun?

    Beer Filtering by Gravity

Yes this would cause oxidation and I do not recommend doing this! Putting the beer through a cheesecloth will aerate the beer as you put it into the bottles. This is why bottle fillers fill from the bottom and attempt to have as little contact with air as possible.

    What are you drinking now?

My Dry Irish Stout that is nearly carbed and quite delicious albeit very dark and heavy in the roasted coffee department ( which is its purpose)

    Star san foam

Then I see no reason to worry :) The way star San works is just raising pH of the water so its basically harmless to your beer.

    Star san foam

Yes unless there was liquid starsan in the bottom.

    Infected carboy :(

Oh that sounds unpleasant! I take it you can't save it at all either! I was lucky I had 4-5 fruit flys in my air lock at one point but they got trapped and killed in the sanitizer.

1st time kegging, doing something wrong!

Doh just yesterday I realized my keg was resting against my high pressure gauge in the fridge, which caused it to leak, and I losed a few pounds of co2 how ironic right after posting to here.

    Half my stout got dumped

Oh wow I did not realize the 1-1.5bbl I was thinking gallons...doh my condolences.

    yeast starter=pain

One thing I noticed that when I use a stirplate I don't get a huge formation of krausen going up the glass so perhaps this is just what I have found. Also I am interested in how much dme you used to have enough blow off to need a tube on that? Never experienced that much blow off from a...

    Infected carboy :(

Wait you got a fly in it and you are calling it infected and dumping the batch?? I sure hope not but in regards to cleaning I just dump some oxyclean in hot water, use a scrub brush designed for cleaning carboys, and let it sit over night. In the morning I dump the carboy rinse with hot water.

    Beer Filtering by Gravity

I think the only way that you could filter without using a pressurized system with kegs would not work unless we are talking about a small little mesh filter or cheesecloth. That would probably work if you started a siphon with it but it could clog up very fast depending on how much trub you...

    Boil over

Do you have a really small pot that you are boiling too much in? Such as attempting to do a 5 gallon batch in a 5.5 - 6 gallon pot?

    Availability of Soda Kegs

^ Nice website thanks! And sadly kegs are getting less common I have had to buy all used ones online because you cannot find them anywhere around here. The nice thing is that new ones are being produced so we wont ever run out of kegs per se.

    Blow Off

No such thing as over pitching yeast IMO. This is unless were talking about a gallon of yeast. I would consider that excessive ha ha.

Where does all the beer go?

Sadly I never seem to be able to keep kegs full for more than a few weeks and I have to drink accordingly to when my next batch will be done. If I have a batch coming up then let the weekend drinking begin :tank:
