    Ranco control

Best I've found when factoring in supply and shipping costs: http://www.pexsupply.com/Ranco-ETC-111000-Single-Stage-ETC-Temperature-Control-w-Sensor-120-240V-Input-11627000-p $49.45 + shipping ($8.48 for me). Need to buy one soon, so if there's a better source, share the love!

So what are dual holes in a kettle for?

Yea, I caught on to this when the listing started popping up in every city I searched for beer stuff... Kinda made me turn to other sources.

    Keezer build

Looks nice, definitely more eloquent then the standard hole and spray foam approach. I'll be keeping this in mind for my keezer build. One thought: what about drilling a hole just large enough for the 1/2" NPT portion of the flange and mounting the flange on the inside of the collar? Then the...

    Multi-temp Keezer

Thinking of doing something similar but with the 2nd chamber outside the keezer and fed with cold air via a fan and duct system. This is, of course, after I have a keezer to build off of...

    CO2 tank plumbing

Probably a better option than trying to track down the right pieces on McMaster, huh?

Adding a single chile at bottling?

I did an experimental 1g batch of an APA with 2 roasted habenero chilis (roasted on the grill) split and added to the secondary. Beer stayed in the secondary for a few months (was distracted by travel for work). The resulting beer was beautiful, crystal clear, great color... but it was...

Ordered 2 for myself as well (jump start keezer project), really hoping I got in before they kill this off.

Kegerator Idea - Outlets Inside Fridge

I'd think the only way to do this would be with a completely sealed junction box, but even then you have some concerns about the outlets themselves being exposed. Unfortunately, this seems like a risky plan and probably not worth the additional effort.

    SMaSH recipe, drinkable?

In general, the earlier you add, the high AA extraction (bitterness). The later you add, the more aroma contribution.

    MD/DC grain

Definitely interested in getting in on one of these in the future. Out of curiosity, is there savings to be had by ordering other supplies from them in conjunction with the grain group buys (e.g. spices, candi sugar, cleaners, wood, etc)? Not sure how those prices compare to what's available...

Kegerator also used as temp control for fermentation?

Disclaimer: This post is complete speculation, I haven't actually done any of this. I've been considering 2 projects for a while: kegerator/keezer and a fermentation chamber. Recently, I've been thinking of combining the two in a way I haven't seen mentioned much on here. My idea is a...

Recipe for a thirst quencher beer for summer?

Couldn't agree more. My first thought for "summer beer" is a Berliner Weisse (this may be influenced by DFH's Festina Peche). I've always found it to be highly refreshing - tartness and low ABV make it very enjoyable on a hot day. Like ArcaneXor said though, the lead time is a bit high (and...

    question about heating element

I'm sure some of the more experienced electric brewers can give a more definitive answer, but my response would be "it depends". The electric brew setups around here has a submersed element and produce some great results, but it depends on the element itself. Some have reported scorching with...

    Thank god for understanding wives

I had a 5g batch of a peanut butter porter blow the lid right off of the bucket it was fermenting in. Sounded like a shotgun. Luckily it was in the shower stall in the spare bathroom (my new favorite fermenting spot) and was easy to hose down. I definitely err on the side of blow-off tubes now...

Anyone know a good lemon or lime recipe?

I'm actually just wrapping up a 3 batch run of a Ginger Lime Pale Ale (brewing it for my wedding). It's an extract, but there's nothing fancy about it really. The same recipe could probably be used without the Ginger and come out as a simple, lime-infused ale. The lime is definitely apparent...

    Hop experiment

How are you deciding on the amount of hops? I would think that you would want to standardize the AA% or IBUs being used (as opposed to weight). Though I guess an argument could be made for doing it by weight to see how big (prominent) each type is. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure...

Toss out hydrometer samples or put 'em back?

I guess this is as good a place as any to ask this. I watched a video a while back (of course I can't find it now) and it seemed to suggest pulling a sample immediately after pitching the yeast and maintaining it separately, then using that sample for all measurements. Then the affect of...
