    Gold Coffee Filter When Kegging?

I read an article (Review: The Cask Widge | TechCrunch) a while ago about a product called a Cask Widge that is supposed to be pretty effective at preventing clogs and reducing the need to filter going into the keg. I contacted them company and they sell just the "float" piece (vs. the whole...

    Element cord options

Good idea, when can I order one? :mug: Might try hacking something together w/ a PVC endcap + reducer...

    SOF and keezer

I've been thinking about doing this exact thing for a while now. I'm just starting to put my keezer together (keep bouncing between eBIAB build and Keezer build...) and plan to build a small insulated box to sit beside it. I'm subscribing to this thread in the hopes you go through with this...

Square peg and a round hole, kind of?

I'd think and even better option is the square-ish containers that companies like USPlastics sells. They're often called jerry cans (or jerricans). They come in a variety of sizes and would probably be an even more efficient use of space. Something like these: USPlastics Jerricans Category...

    Countertop Brutus 20

Looking at that item on Home Depot, it looks like the shiny metallic insulation product (similar to Reflectix). Oracle's BK looks like it has a coating similar to the rubber coating on some kegs? My original plan was to use Reflectix/Insulation, but after seeing Oracle's, I'm thinking I could...

    Countertop Brutus 20

Oracle, this has probably been asked before, but how is that BK insulated? It looks awesome and I'd like to replicate it in my system (when I eventually get around to building it out).

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

How do you have your brewing exhaust tied in to your dryer exhaust? Do you just disconnect from dryer/connect to brewing? I've thought about a similar system but always baulk at how to tap into the existing exhaust without causing cross flow/poor venting issues.

    Still dont get the diff

If the size of the keg isn't a concern, and you're only trying to keep standard connection types, converting is an options. Might be some nuances in terms of post sizes and poppets and whatnot, but it's definitely possible.

    Scorched Element

Yea, I'm not sure there are many good alternatives to solving the potential for this outside of a lower watt density density. Maybe augmenting the flow of liquid via recirculation or stirring? I wonder if there's a way to determine the threshold for this type of occurrence based on the watt...

    Scorched Element

I'm certainly not an expert, but my guess would be the amount of particulate matter (likely much higher than normal as a result of the pumpkin) is the real culprit here. I'd be curious to see if you had similar results with an equally high SG wort without pumpkin.

    BIAB Question

I think you're referring to tannin extraction from squeezing, but I'm pretty sure that's been debunked by quite a few BIAB'ers. Not sure of all the science behind tannin extraction, but squeezing is common practice with BIAB, and lots of good beers are brewed with it.

Need Help Simple 10Gal Electric Brewing System

You're looking for a PWM. There's an active thread on how to build one, I'd check that out.

Swaglock 1/2 female X 3/8 OD compression fittings

So you'll have to excuse my fitting noobness, but what are the benefits of swaglocks? Where in a system do they fit in?

Whats the longest amount of time you've gone between brews

I had a gap from November to February (out of the country), followed by brewing 15 gallons in March for my wedding (Ginger Lime PA). Right now I'm in a 5 month rut as a result of work and moving and renovating our kitchen/LR. I have been taking the time to start compiling the various...

    WLP500 at cool temps

Extremely timely question as I'm using WLP500 in my next batch. I'll be fermenting in my basement for the first time, and the ambient temp seems to be hovering around 55-60. I'm really going for the earthy qualities of the yeast (vs. the high esters), so I'm hoping my temps work out well. I...

    The 'Original' Keezer

A sense of sadness came over me when I read the title, followed by utter relief when I saw the words "Keezer v2". Hoping the v2 build is every bit as epic and inspiring.

    Cleaning blow off tube?

I created a tube cleaner by cutting a swatch of shamwow and tying a length of string to it. Feed the string thru the tub and pull the cloth thru. Pair it up with an oxiclean soak and the tubing comes out sparkling.

    In line thermometer

I dont have a good answer to your actual question, but I've seen a few builds where people use the stick-on liquid crystal thermometers (think fish tank thermometer). Stick it on the wort-out tubing, and you get your wort-out temp. Just an idea.

    Single vessel BIAB electric build

Awesome build! This is almost exactly what I'm planning and gives me some great ideas. Would love to hear any tips or what you'd change about it (maybe once you get a few brews under your belt).
