    Stale Hops with Foodsaver

I heard from my local lhbs the other week that the foodsaver bags actually allow in some air over time. I however still use them and have not had any problems.

Cascadian Dark Ale ("Black IPA") Recipe Help/Critique

Not to hijack, but here is my grain bill for my CDA. Up your carafa III to get a deeper color, the proposed guidelines say SRM should start at 30. Mine came in at 32 srm. Its all about coloring your beer with the right grains. 10.5 lbs 2-Row 1.5 lbs 10L 0.75 lbs Carafa III (525.0 SRM) 0.65...

Direct fire MT, bazooka screen or false bottom?

Okay, buy why? Because you want the heat to be even? Please explain, can it be done however?

Direct fire MT, bazooka screen or false bottom?

I am in the process of starting to build a tier unit a piece at a time. I just acquired a keg with ss valve and thermometer. However, no false bottom or screen. I have used a manifold previously in my rectangular coolers as well as a screen when I was doing partial mash. I like the cost of...

    Primary fermentor in cooler method

Its an either or type of answer from me. Lagers i typically let stay warm before dropping. Ales it just depends on how much yeast I am pitching. If I made a starter or dumping on trub I drop it immediately. But if I am pitching from a vial or smack pack. I give it 12-24. Either way RDWHAHB!

    Ufc

Love Anderson Silva, he is probably my favorite, but after the crap in Dubai I hope Chael Sonnen beats his face in. Fitch and Hughes will both win by decision. Roy Nelson will submit Junior Dos Santos.

Anybody have a Great Divide Samurai clone?

Anybody have a Great Divide Samurai clone? Can't seem to find one anywhere, and have never used rice with the exception of hulls. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!:mug:

    Bottle Conditioning vs Keg Conditioning

The variable is are you carbing in the bottle. If you are just asking conditioning a beer in a bottle shot from a keg vs beer left in the keg to condition, it is the same.

Pitching on Edwort Haus Ale Yeast Cake

RDWHAHB, I wouldn't even cut the bottom of the airlock. I would be more concerned about keeping the temperature down. Pitching on yeast cake is a plus, it just generates alot of heat. You might consider swamp cooling or another method.

    Acai Beer?

After watching a episode of Three Sheets this morning then running by the natural foods market, I have started thinking about making a beer with Acai berries. I noticed there is a wheat beer that has acai in it but was really wanting to look at making a stout. I have 4-5 bottles of Mona Vie...

    blueberry wheat ale

Just keg it as you normally would, but be sure to try and get the blueberries out first. Just like a dry hop you want to squeeze out all that good flavor juice. Sounds interesting, let us know how it turns out!:mug:

fan box to move air in keezer

I can't say I have heard of that before but it could work. Had you thought of just trying to insulate the beer lines? You know with foam tube insulation like they have on air conditioning units. Because the beer should be plenty cold coming out of the keg.

    Wort Chilling Disaster

Just the longer it takes to cool the higher the chance for infection. If you dropped it below 150 fairly quick I doubt color will be an issue. If you had a good starter going when pitched all should be fine. I would say RDWHAHB!:mug:

Strawberry Hefeweizen- The Steeping or Secondary Conundrum

I have made a succulent strawberry pale ale, and used 3lbs in he secondary. The recipe called for 8, but 3 was plenty tart. I just used frozen strawberries from the grocery store. Sanititize the mouth of the secondary before and after pushing the strawberries in, the just rack on top. Be...

PineBelt Pale Ale Clone - PineTar Pale Ale

I know there are a couple of names, just my LHBS didn't have any in that day! I just wanted to try to make a clone on my own and its pretty spot on.

    Cherry Wheat Primary Time Question

If its done give it 5-7 days in the secondary, the shake. If I was you I would just rack to the keg and leave it on gas for 2 wks allowing it to clear and carb at the same time. That is if it does not screw up your setup.

    Cherry Wheat Primary Time Question

I assume you mean FG was 1.008. I would say wait till FG was the same for 2-3 days. Did you get really high fermentation temperatures, or over-pitch? Are you planning on force-carbing via shaking or just leaving it on gas for 2wks? If you just leaving it on gas I would keg and skip...

BeerSmith Question - Is trial version any different than purchased version?

I love it, and am 99% sure its the same as the demo. I used all the days on the demo before buying it. A very smart investment and tool for keeping notes on your brew day! I recently switched all my computers to linux-ubuntu and it works fine thru WINE.
