    Extreme Beer Fest - 2/4/12

Anyone going? I can't wait! This is my first year going to this one, and there are some very tasty sounding beers like this one from Jackie O's: Dark Apparition - Nuts -- Russian Imperial Stout, 10.5% (Brewed with hazelnut, almond, pecan, cashew, and coconut.) ...as well as some...

    New brew questions

That might be the problem, it didn't come with any tubing so I bought some...it fits fairly snug, but possibly not as much so as it should. I'll look for a better fit if there's no crack anywhere, which I don't think there is

    New brew questions

Ahh I didn't see any lids that already had a hole and grommet. Guess I will keep an eye out for one of those since I don't have a dremel saw. Right now i'm just using seran wrap :). Thanks for the tips

    New brew questions

Just going to piggyback off this thread rather than start a new one since there are thousands of 1 or 2 new question threads... 1. What is the best way to install an airlock? I know it should be simple, but when I tried to drill a whole in my bucket lid, I broke it. I'll get another one, but...

Mr. Beer? Is it too simple?

I started with Mr. Beer and in my opinion, it is a good introduction. I've done 3 or 4 batches of it and just last week did my first extract brew with a 60 minute boil, hop additions, etc...taking it a step at a time. Mr. Beer definitely makes it very easy but serves its purpose as an intro.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Thanks, another question...since one of the HME cans I have left claims it's a Lager extract, is it OK to use it in Ales? I thought that Lagering just involved a different fermentation duration/temp and a different yeast.

Help me grow my beer palate

I really like Barleywine as well. Some of them are sweet like stouts and very high ABV which I personally like. I didn't used to like many IPA's either...wasn't a fan of super hoppy beers, but now I LOVE them. I'm not sure what happened, but I think what really turned me on to them were the...

    I am currently fermenting Ovaltine.

Hmmmmm...interest to see what this ends up tasting like.

    MMA fans?

I watch Ultimate Fighter, but I typically fast forward through all the reality show nonsense and just watch the fights. Curious to see how the new FX live version is...not sure how that will work, but should be cool. I usually either go to a sports bar or split the PPV with my brother...

    First time brewer!

We must have done our first batches at almost the exact same time, cause i'm in the same boat :mug: Just waiting another couple days and then moving to secondary and getting something else going.

Very cool stuff! Met any fighters who are flat out ********?

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Question - I have moved on from my Mr. Beer kit to some more "advanced" extract brewing, but I still have some leftover Mr. Beer stuff...is there anything I can do with a couple bags of booster, a can of Blonde Ale HME and a pound of Cowboy Golden Lager HME aside from just the straight forward...

    MMA fans?

Yeah, I think we're on the same page. Overeem might be the better striker technically speaking (K-1 creds and what not), but I have a feeling if they both eat a couple shots, he'll be the one backing up while JDS will keep coming. 2nd round KO for JDS is probably what I would go with too if I...

    MMA fans?

Eh I disagree. At this point in his career he might not be championship material anymore because he's too aggressive and doesn't gameplan well enough to beat the "new breed" of heavyweight...but I think there are plenty of guys he could handle in the UFC. With his punching power, speed, and...

    MMA fans?

Thanks for the welcome, interesting martial arts history...cool stuff. I can certainly understand not being interest in MMA mostly due to the way that it's presented similar to pro-wrestling these days...it does get very lame and overproduced for sure. I like to just DVR events and fast-forward...

    MMA fans?

The Diaz brothers present an interesting problem for a lot of MMA fans I think...their attitudes in the cage and outside of it can get extremely thuggish and annoying, but they are both VERY good fighters who seem to be getting better and better and beating the hell out of everyone they fight...

How much table sugar to carb

Hmmm that seems like a good idea. Thanks guys

    MMA fans?

I'm brand new here and after doing a bit of searching it doesn't look like there are any active MMA threads going...any fans? I've been a huge fan of the sport since 2004 or so, and fight nights give me an excuse (not that I need one!) to open some good beers and relax. :fro: Favorite...

Samuel Adams Third Voyage Double IPA

I absolutely loved the oaked barleywine too. I've bought it 2 more times since and have another in my cellar...it wasn't received particularly well I don't think but personally I love it.
