Do I need to add new yeast?

Do I need to add new yeast?

So...about a week ago I was planning to brew a pumpkin ale, and I picked up one of those smack packs from Wyeast. I smacked it, intending to brew that day or the next...but as it turned out, I didn't find time until about 4 days later. So the pack sat in the fridge, completely inflated for a...

    Is this recipe OK?

This is my 4th batch, and the first one that i'm not planning on using someone else's recipe for...it's nothing difficult, but I just want a couple more sets of eyes on it to see if i'm making any mistakes before I even start. thanks!! Unnamed IPA - 2.5 gallon batch 3 lbs extra light DME...

Nightmare brew day...will it be ruined?

The worst for me was taking the burner off to find a puddle sitting below it. Sopping that up was a huge pain. What a ridiculous mess. My first brew, an IPA, boiled over but it was just once and it was just foam, I got it under control pretty quick...this one was 10x worse! Fortunately I won...

Nightmare brew day...will it be ruined?

I did lose a good amount of liquid, so when I added water later I didn't go all the way to 2.5 gallons. Hopefully it's at least drinkable, that's all I'm hoping for at this point. After the second boil over I very nearly poured it all down the drain. Glad I didn't though! OG was right around 1.10.

Nightmare brew day...will it be ruined?

So, yesterday was far and away the least successful of my 3 brew days so far. The goal was a 2.5 gallon imperial chocolate stout. My pot is only about 3 gallons, but it has been enough for my first two brews (although just barely, had a slight boil over the first time.) So anyway...I started...

    Batch #1 is delicious!

I tried my first brew last night, and i'm thrilled to say that it came out great! It's an IPA I made from a slightly tweaked Brewers Best extract kit. Very hoppy, the Falconers Flight hops are delicious and citrusy, it's pretty clear, nice head, smells great...overall it came out way better...

I've become too much of a hop head

I'm with ya man, I always crave more hops. The more the better, especially with the hop varieties that are heavy on the citrus flavor.

    What's your profession?

    i'm in bus sales :tank:
  15. SasquatchSmith

Did you start with a Mr.Beer kit?

I did. I did 3 or 4 batches...they came out OK aside from my latest one, and Oktoberfest which is FAR too carbonated and just doesn't taste very good. My first more serious extract batch was just bottled this weekend, a Brewers Best kit IPA :)

    IPA=blah

This might literally be my favorite beer...Widmer Nelson and Lagunitas Sucks are my two favorites lately, absolutely delicious.

What to do with other Mr. Beer HME?

I had a similar situation...I started extract brewing a bit more seriously after doing Mr. Beer a few times, and had some leftover MR. Beer HME. I basically just threw a can of Mr. Beer Blonde into a brew recently in place of some other LME, and I cut back on the hops in the boil. It's still...

Recipe Critique : Bourbon Oaked Double Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal Stout

Sounds delicious man, I actually LOVE beers that are heavy on the bourbon so I think I would be a big fan of your beer. I'm gonna get a stout going soon as my 3rd brew...I don't want to screw it up since i'm such a noob, but i'm very tempted to oak it, bourbon it, add some other not yet...

    Extreme Beer Fest - 2/4/12

You might be able to find some on craigslist or something, but yeah every session sold crazy fast unfortunately...only like 700 per session :( Sorry, should have mentioned that in the OP. I was lucky to hear about it on time and was sitting there ready to buy two as soon as they went up for...
