    WLP001 is crazy!

This is my first brew with WLP001 California Ale. I've never seen a fermentation like this! -5 gallon AG batch of DFH 60 minute clone (toned down version of the recipe at the recipe forum here). -OG only 1.055, so didn't bother with a blow off tube. -6.5 gallon ale pale in my basement at...

    first brew outside, some issues

Is it for laundry. If you don't have a lawn or flowers to water, fill up a bucket with the water, dump it in your washing machine (assuming a top load washer), repeat.

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

I just brewed this tonight for my second all grain home brew (maybe my 10th home brew to date, but just switched to all grain a few months ago). I can't wait! After reading through posts here, I did make some changes: 1. Went down to 11 lbs of 2-row instead of the original 13 lbs. 2. Had to...

    Odd smell after kegging?

Small update. I didn't do anything, and let it be. Last night I dumped a few ounces of sediment, then poured a glass. The smell wasn't nearly as bad, and tasted okay (aside from not being fully carb'd yet). I think i'll be ok (whew!) :mug:

    Odd smell after kegging?

I should have soaked (in hindsight), but didn't. I used easy clean and a sponge, cleaned everything and rinsed. Then sanitized. I did an oxyclean soak for a couple hours in the second keg, it doesn't smell that much. I want to do another soak with baking soda though once I pick some up...

    Odd smell after kegging?

Yep, new -- as in new, new. Brand spankin' new. They definitely have a smell, but considering i've never owned a keg before, I just assumed kegs smelled this way. Guess not!

    Odd smell after kegging?

I wish victory smelled more like a hoppy pale ale

    Odd smell after kegging?

So what happened then? I can't imagine it's acceptable to always smell like that. New everything, so yes, just filled up my new CO2 tank at my LHBS. I'm leaning towards the keg though, because I thought it smelled odd when racking to the keg initially.

    Odd smell after kegging?

It's hard to describe. Although I was just coming on here to make an additional comment. I bought a set of new kegs, so I just went and shoved my nose in the empty second keg to smell it. Could it just be a matter of "new keg smell" leaching into the beer, but not affecting the taste, only...

    Odd smell after kegging?

I just got new kegs and a new kegerator (all of this equipment is brand new). I just kegged an IPA last Sunday (after cleaning/sanitizing everything). The brew smelled fine in the primary. When I was racking from the secondary into the keg, I took a whiff of the keg that was half filled with...

Getting into AG...question on mash tun kits

I just got a 10 gallon mash tun (orange Igloo cooler) with valve and kettle screen from my LHBS for $89. I didn't see the need for a separate HLT.

First all grain completed! Overshot OG

Actually, I realized I didn't input the right wort volume. I put 6 gallons, which is what I ended up with after the boil, but I really started with just under 8. That changes the numbers significantly, where 100% is 1.049. So it doesn't make sense that my OG was so high. I'm not too...

First all grain completed! Overshot OG

I just completed my first all grain today, I'm pumped! I'm not sure I could have asked for it to go better than it did... I'm not sure why i was so intimidated by this. I nailed my temps and ended up with about a gallon or so leftover wort, so I apparently compensated a bit much thinking I'd...

Leak at gas line connection, now what?

Hmm... mine never came with that. It isn't referenced in the overview pdf (under the additional information tab) either. The only plastic washer that came with it was for the connection to the CO2 tank...

Leak at gas line connection, now what?

Yeah I re-read that post and it certainly wasn't clear where the leak was -- my bad! I'll pick up some tape tonight and hopefully that resolves everything. Edit -- That took care of it, don't see anymore leaks at this point. Thanks guys.

Leak at gas line connection, now what?

It's leaking around the threads where it screws onto the regulator body. I don't think there is any leaking going on where the tube is clamped. I'm not sure what style clamp it is -- i'm at work and it's at home. Although the tube and everything was already clamped from NB, I just have to...

Leak at gas line connection, now what?

Let me try tape. Yes, i have the gas line clamped to the piece which screws into the regulator. that's where it's leaking.

Leak at gas line connection, now what?

I just got a new set of draft brewer kegs from Northern Brewer, and a double body regulator. I'm testing the connections for the first time and I've got bubbling at the gas line to regulator connection. I've tightened it with a wrench but it still bubbles when I bump up the pressure to 1 PSI...

Help with non-carb'd bottles after 2 months

Haha, well, what do you know.... we happened to open another bottle (1 of 2) that I had put in the fridge the other day. The one I opened yesterday was really flat. I opened up the second one tonight and this happened... When we were racking in the bottling bucket, I did put the priming...

Help with non-carb'd bottles after 2 months

Yeah, PrimeDose I think is the name of a newer northern brewer product. It is supposed to have yeast and priming sugar in a capsule. I was considering it, but after reading Calichusetts' reply about having to wait 5 months, maybe I should just wait more....!
