    240v 2400w 7 gallon

Ryuko, just wondering by your handle, are you brewing in Japan?

1st Electric Brew- Some feedback please?

That would be cheating. Lick your fingers and touch it. If you go "ouch" it's 120v. If it's "huh, what happened, where am I?", then it probably is 220v. (seriously, get a meter!)

any homebrewing website that ships internationally?

I was thinking that maybe everything outside of Texas was considered "international" shipping.

Should STC temperature probe be in beer or in fermentation fridge?

Probe on shelf- good. Probe taped on side of fermentor - better Probe inside beer via thermowell-best.

    Noob... Witbeer

Here is the actual style outline: http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style16.php The ingredients section says it all. Make and tweak to your own heart's content. Pay close attention (take notes) of the amount of coriander and orange peel you use. I give each no more than 10 minutes in the boil...

    Minimum temp for dissolve LME

Sorry, but what do you mean, "no hops". Is the LME pre-hopped? Or absolutely no hops in the recipe? You plan on fermenting plain LME in to plain alcohol?

    Home brewing in Japan

Simple set ups are really straight forward. Buy a Japanese regulator. Get a tank of gas from a liquor store. One meter of air hose from the home center. Gas in ball lock connector. Beer line out picnic tap set for serving. Place beer in keg, keg in fridge. Done. Making a dedicated kegerator is...

    Home brewing in Japan

All cornies are basically alike. The posts can be different: ball lock or pin lock. Many of the cornies around here in japan are from overseas, but j made ones work the same. Japanese regulAtors work fine with cornies. Over seas regulators need an adaptor nut to connect to j co2 tanks.

Sounds like you really rushed things.

    Home brewing in Japan

I've got a number of 5g/20l Pubkegs I'm not using anymore. 500 yen each plus shipping. These are pretty easy to clean and use since they use an inner PET container for the beer. Requires a Sanke D type tap (or use an S type and grind the plunger down a bit).

Built a counter flow chiller, a little differently.

Good work. And it's powered by a bicycle. How cool!

Grassy flavor from dry hop after 3 days

I've had grassy before it was only with the use of Saaz and they were in for some time. These days, I only dry hop two days at the most. However, I suspect it was just the variety of hops you used.

    Kettle or Mash Tun Cozy

I do 10l and 20l BIAB batches. The 20l is recirculated, the 10l gets a tea cozy similar to this photo.

In-Laws having an issue with my brewing

    1. Luke 7:34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Please note that Jesus did not refute this charge. 1a. What goes into your body does not defile you, it is what comes out of...

    Sorachi Ace in A Saison?

Don't overdo it on Sorachi. .5 oz is probably enough for aroma. It can be a little "soapy" if used too liberally.

Here is a recipe for a white IPA I made a while back. Small batch.

    Home brewing in Japan

Looks pretty good. Here is an invaluable link for BIAB https://pricelessbrewing.github.io/BiabCalc/ Fill in the fields and you should get a good idea on water needed. During mash, just cover your pot with a blanket. That should keep enough heat in where you won't need to re-fire the kettle...

    Home brewing in Japan

I'll see what I can do and put those on the list. I need to order 25 for discount, and right now the yeast in the shop isn't quite flying off the shelves, so it could be a while before ordering. In fact, thinking about the summer here, I may just wait till September. Whitelabs didn't do any...

    Home brewing in Japan

Personally, I don't worry about it. I guess the safest is no bag at all, but that way is such a pain to let settle and clear out before draining into the fermenter. Plus I run a mini pump during mashing and chilling, so the loose pellet hops would screw that up.

Any 100 yen should have a good selection of nylon bags. You're sure to find a size that works. I found a huge one that works for BIAB in a 36 liter pot (duffle bag shape) and use another smaller one for hops during the boil. Smaller ones often have a loop sewn in, which makes it easy to use a...
