    CO2 Regulator?

I think it's likely a regulator for a MIG welder. My TIG machine (uses Argon) wants about 50PSI and I'd guess MIG (uses CO2) is about the same.

Why is my mash ph always too low?

+1 on catalanotte's comments about simplifying your additions. That looks like a boatload of lactic acid. My water is ~35ppm bicarbonate (close to yours) and I use 1-2ml in the mash for a 10 gallon batch. Skip the baking soda, chalk, and lime and greatly reduce the lactic acid and you should be...

Is 20 percent dextrose (added post fermentation) too much for a dry wc IPA?

I have no experience with Belgian brews (WC IPA all the way!) so the idea of adding sugar at the end of fermentation is new to me. IPA recipes I've seen/used seem to generally call for sugar, if used, to be added in the boil--my practice is about 5-10 minutes before the end of the boil. As to...

How many of you guys aerate with an oxygen tank?

Yes, 0.5 micron. Oxywand from Morebeer.

How many of you guys aerate with an oxygen tank?

I use the Blichmann O2 regulator on a new O2 cylinder--seems like a lifetime supply, which is fine because I got tired of leaks on hard to find little red cylinders. For 5G batch, I run O2 through a 5micron stone for 3:30 @ 0.25L/min. I let the pressure equalize for about 30sec before I put the...

Hot side tubing alternatives to silicone.

I've been using Santoprene for several years on my RIMS system, but it seems to be hard to find. My last purchase in Feb '22 was from Santopseal, which seems to have it available (Santopseal). My last order was for 5/8" ID X 13/16" OD X 3/32". Yes, it's kinda stiff.

CIP Ball- Who has a good process?

I have a Spike ball that I use on my fermenters and Blichmann ball I use on an old lid to clean the BK. I didn't get enough flow with a Riptide to get the cleaning I thought the balls were capable of, so I got a "shallow well" pump (this one) which works great, though I'm uncertain what...

    Share a tip

Use your refractometer and Kai's "table 1" (Understanding efficiency) to determine when the mash is nearly done. For me, 60min is never enough.

    Sanitation and cleaning

I would recommend never using anything that has a scent added. This is part of why I use PBW for cleaning and StarSan for sanitizing.

    Rubber taste

Two things stand out for me from your description. First is the citric acid. This is used by some as a preservative more than for pH control. Personally, I use lactic acid in mash and phosphoric acid if needed in the boil. Second, bottling. How you clean and sanitize your bottles and how you...

pH meter - has anyone found one that lasts?

I've been using the same Extech PH100 for almost 7yrs. The Extech meter has a cap with a tiny sponge at the bottom. I keep this wet with storage solution. I've started measuring pH at mash temp, which is hard on the probe, so replacing the probed for the first time today.

Oxygen pickup in silicone beer line

I'm interested in this calculation result. But why not use Santoprene instead of silicon tube?

Beer has strange foam after dry hopping and tastes terrible

Since you have experience tasting your beers at this point in the process, I‘d say if it tastes broken ,then it probably is. If it were my batch, I’d assume contamination, clean everything with PBW and starsan and then look for how to avoid the issue in the future. So, the two other issues you...

    ICEMASTER MAX 2

This CPC QD's look soooo much like the ones I got from Morebeer. Like this one: CPC (Colder) High-Flow Quick-Disconnect Fitting, Hosebarb Body, Polypropylene, Valved, 3/8" ID from Cole-Parmer.

    West Coast IPA feedback

OK, there's West Coast and there's San Diego. I'm more in the SD camp (hops over color?) +1 on some Simcoe if you want Piney. I don't care for Simcoe flavor used in dry hop, so only short boil or WP in my recipes. +1 on Munich. If you want color, you can go higher--1lb would work. I don't...

    ICEMASTER MAX 2

I stuck with PVC hose instead of going to the (smaller?) EVA barrier hose. I'm using some QD's I got from Morebeer: Plastic QD. Mine have check valves on the male side, so female on the coil and male on the hose. Prevents glycol siphoning and allows me to change direction of flow in the coil. I...

    West Coast IPA feedback

That looks like a nice, simple, dry beer. I'd probably add a little Citra at 5 or 10min.

    West Coast IPA feedback

My Go-To style. My typical grist is 80-100% 2-row, with a few percent of munich, vienna (if I want sweetness) or wheat (for more foam.) Definitely drop the amber malt. I've tried golden promise in a hoppy IPA and will probably never use it again. You don't state the batch size, but given the...

I have no idea what I'm doing but boy ain't it fun!

Not a HERMs expert here, just passing on some thoughts: With natural gas, the flame under the HERM kettle will need to cycle on and off, so an igniter is needed. The only potential problem with this vs. electric is if you have wind messing with the flame. I think I'd go with electric on the...

    Dry Hopping - optimal time?

The OP mentioned using a hop bag. I suppose the bag might work OK with only 1-2 ounces DH. I use a lot of dry hops in most of my beers and get much better results when the hops are "loose".
