Is this a rhizome I can cut and replant?

I've done this with smaller sections of root in potting soil in pots and in the ground and none of the ground ones took off last yr. though this yr i found a plant coming up where one i transplanted had withered so yay for me. too bad i can't remember what i planted there. lol. i've had to put...

    Second Year Centennial Pruning Question

this happened to me last yr. I trimmed everything that popped up around mid may since they only started coming up a few weeks ago here in NY but still ended up with some hollow ones that bent badly in the wind and due to sag when hop plants got heavy. so i may have to be a little aggressive...

    Fast Souring - Modern Methods

maybe i shouldn't of taken the quick oats out. oh well it's only a test batch. as for the unpasteurized part, i did grill the slices of pineapple until they started to char. :) normally i only see an infection if i forget about the fact the fruit is in there. If I yank it as soon as...

    Fast Souring - Modern Methods

so beer came out to 1.025 OG. way off then i remembered wheat always seems to trip me up with OG. but i'm adding 2lb of pinapple puree so that will bring the ABV up a little. brewed wed night. fermented high 80's. by friday morning fermentation has stopped and yeast is dropping. FG is 1.004 and...

    Fast Souring - Modern Methods

So I've been wanting to brew a certain sour ever since i had a caramelized pineapple sour brewed locally. so the other day i mixed up some dry malt and calcium carbonate then opened up 4 probiotic capsules into it as a starter. well the wort soured. really well. I also cut up two whole...

    Anyone ever make "hop water"?

One hop from one of my arcadian plants was enough for a mug of hop tea. A small hop. I originally did a few and it was way too bitter.

    Hartwick Hops

So...I still have two kegs of this beer. LOL! it's bitter as all heck. like burn your throat bitter. i found adding some lactose to the glass lowers the bitterness to make it drinkable so i'm going to add 1/4 cup to the whole keg to see if that saves it. pretty sure my grain bill didn't have the...

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

I'm using 20 ft of hose. It runs down the basement railing from the patio to the fridge at the bottom of the stairs into my fermenter.

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

I bought a 100kbtu propane cooker when i upgraded to a 20 gallon pot. so much easier with the hose plus it aerates great.

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

yep. though i still make 10 gallon batches. i keep those fermenters in a fridge in the basement on a stand. brew outside then use a long hose to run the wort down to the fermenters. at keg time hook hose up to spigot on fermenter and fill. now when there is just a few gallons left i do need to...

    Bucket v.s. conical v.s. unitank

i have 2 13 gallon vittles vaults with spigots on the bottom for fermenting 10 gal batches. plus multiple brew buckets for smaller batches. haven't had issues because i clean them well. And when i say well i mean put some oxyclean in them fill it with water, let it soak over night, drain...

    Pests: aphids & flowerbugs

I have insecticidal soap and neem oil mixed up in a garden sprayer. After my hops hit the top of the wire and looking juicy and tasty i will spray them down either before the sun hits the leaves or after. Once i started doing this i had very few aphids fleeing my drying hops.

    Sunken soil

mine were like this last yr. I had a pile of wood chips from multiple tree stumps. I pile 3-4" of wood chips on top of the hops late march and it didn't phase them. they still went crazy. most of the wood chips have decomposed since then and i'll just throw soil on top and more wood chips.
