I might of made an oopsie..?

Ive learned to take what the "local home brew shop guy" says with a grain of salt. The one closest to me is pretty good but i have been to some others that have told me crazy things and I have overheard them tell beginning brewers things that are flat out wrong. you 100% dont need to do a...

I might of made an oopsie..?

aerating post fermentation is not great but depending on the beer style may not be the end of the world. you may see the most negative effect in really hoppy beers IPA's NEIPA's pale ales as the hop flavors and aromas may fade out. If its a stout you may not be able to tell. ether way its...

SS Brewtech Unitank VS Spike Unitank

SS brewtech has told me you need at least 8 gallons for the cooling coil to in my 14 gallon unitank (haven't actually tried that yet). the heating side will work on a 5 gallon batch though

    Cat Attack

Not trying to scare you but a cats mouth has tons of nasty bacteria. My dogs get in fights with the neighborhood cats all the time ( they never seem to win the fight but thats a whole different story). the cat bites almost always get infected and its a trip to the vet for cleaning and antibiotics

How much temperature should a cheap ice cooler drop during mash?

be careful here I tried this (and at least with the foam i used) it was a mess. The mash heated the foam past the melting point and i had a sticky foam mess oozing out of my cooler lid for the whole mash. it was a huge pain

Wine making club - Questions for legal purposes

this is more a cover your a$$ from a liability prospective. If I was the owner of the home brew shop i would not allow you to have your meetings in my establishment unless you carried your own liability insurance (and you would probably need to be a legal entity to get liability insurance). if...

    Help for a Beginner

Are you creating your own recipes? I know that is allot of fun but you may want to try some kits or some well tried recipes. start simple with an an APA or a blond with a fairly simple grain bill. It will be far easier to know what the problem is if you use a known good recipe. just looking...

Idaho #7 or Galaxy in a hazy?

I think Galaxy is the easy choice should be killer with the other two. If you want to go out of the box Idaho-7 could be really interesting. I would go Idaho-7 for no better reason than I have 1lb of that in my freezer

    Beginner Hitting a Brick Wall

100% agree with @marc1 set your goal to make something good and drinkable and work on your process and improve. even after years of brewing you will make batches your not super pleased with but thats part of the fun and experimenting. Right now I'm drinking a Braggot i made with the second...

    New equipment and horrible efficiency

my guess (as others have stated) is you are recirculating too fast and creating channels through the grain bed. one easy test is don't recirculate on your next batch and see what your efficiency is. if its way up you have found the problem. i would put a valve on the pump outlet so you can...

    Advice on grain bill

not sure how big a batch you're doing but i would use it all (accept the flaked barley) , US05, and the last 3 hops. That should give you a nice light IPA type thing

Idaho #7 or Galaxy in a hazy?

Both are good but might be easier to pick if you told us what the other two you are planning to use are.

    Beginner Hitting a Brick Wall

if the recipe should be at 1.062 and you were 1.040 thats a pretty big difference. I would look at your mash procedure, temps ect. this could explain why your last batch at least is blan or "watery"

THOUGHT OF A 2V SYSTEM.... CRITICISM AND TIPS ENCOURAGED!!

if it helps here are my drawings. I was not able to get a good whirlpool through my chiller so i had to change up my origional design to add a bypass for the whirlpool
