    What are you drinking now?

Sounds horrible, hope you make it through…..

    Hops potency loss over time?

I’ve used 5 year old hops in a Helles once. Tossed in a pound at 60 and couldn’t tell any difference. Would I use them in a dryhop, probably not. Hops are in the freezer as soon as they arrive. I have way too many hops right now. Kind of like don’t go to the grocery when you’re hungry. Stay away...

    Northern Brewer - Buyer Beware

I still have a nice local. I try to use them for everything I can. MB has never let me down. GFermentations hasn’t either. Ordered foam stoppers for my 5l flasks from Willams. They were the only place I could find them. They came in 2 days with economy shipping at $7.99 There are some good mail...

Bought all of my kegging stuff from him years ago. Still in use today actually!

    What are you drinking now?

Never has for me. My top is Henry McKenna 10 year. Kind of got priced out of that game. $40 to now $125. People ruin everything. Guess I’ll have to hang with the 🦃

What I did for beer today

Waking up some old slurry of 021 and 3864. It has been too long.

I find Eagle the best of that bunch

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Add the fact that he could act like an arrogant masshole and didn’t. I’ve never had any Treehouse, but followed them from the start. That group has killed it. Happy to see anyone make it and still stay humble. Wish more were like that in all avenues of life.

    Domestic Ingredients

I went past a nice Indy store on my way back home. GP was $100 a sack. Weyermann floor malted was $105. Rahr was $72 and local craft pils was $83. I bought a sack of Montana Pils for $55 at my local. It was actually really good IMO. $100 a sack of anything is hard for me to justify when...

    Make IPA Clear Again

My problem with the haze craze is not doing them well. I’ve never had Heady, Treehouse, or the like. TG is probably as good as it gets here. I did have Heretic’s Maja Haze and loved it. I’ve ordered cases of OH and they all are relatively the same. I do like those, but a good WC is fantastic...

    What are you drinking now?

    As good as I remember!
  12. Dog House Brew

    Domestic Ingredients

I haven’t bought any non domestic base in a long time. No local carries the base that I always used. My favorite was Best. My favorite, when I find it, is Rahr North Star. I generally use it @ 80%, mixed with 20% 2 row. I feel like it gives the domestic pils a boost. There are a few localish...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I have a friend that feels the same way. His favorite beer came from a local. Galaxy, Mosaic, and El Dorado. It was awful to me. He loved it, to your point.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Maybe it’s where I bought it. I used to put in almost every IPA I made. Bought a new pound when I bought new Citra. I’ve learned my lesson on bulk ordering certain hops. Get a bad lot and 4# to the landfill. I’ve not ordered from YC. Thanks

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I’ve written Galaxy and Mosaic right out of my recipes. Simcoe is getting there too. Got on a good run with all of them. Something changed, maybe I changed, but I’m not brewing with them. Give me Citra and Nelson all day. Citra plays well with most.

    Cacao nibs in imperial stout

I personally would go commando in the fermenter. I’ve not had great luck in the serving keg.

    Turning off fermentation temp control

I’d say it is as equal to the time spent in fermentation. Most of my ales are 4-6 weeks before they are tapped. I prefer my lagers at 2.5-3 months of cold conditioning. All tastes and processes are different for everyone. Space and abilities also make a difference. I have a 22 cu ft freezer...

    Turning off fermentation temp control

I did 1, I mean 1, Kveik. Kveik shows to me that everyone has different tastes. 🤢 Kind of like bock for me, just can’t drink it. I’ll agree 2 weeks is good. All things are dependent on what style, variables, are involved.

    Turning off fermentation temp control

I’ll add that I pitch active yeast. There’s no lag time to speak of, I do think it makes a difference. Aerate well and let it fly.
  20. Dog House Brew

    Turning off fermentation temp control

Depends on the yeast I guess. I run 007 and it is terminal at 5 days generally. I raise the temp to 70 for 2 days, and then proceed. Stouts and high gravities can add some time, but I never go more than 2 weeks on anything. Just me I guess
